SOURCE: keyless remote wont work, vehicle completely shut down

Hi Russell,

Absolutely no power? No dome light? No head lights? Nothing?
When you step on the brake pedal, no brake lights?

If true, start at the source and pop the hood.

This is going to be a bit of back and forth dialogue. I'll ask some questions and you get me the answers. That way we can get to the root of the problem. To save time, I'll ask multiple questions at a time. Here goes.

  • Check the battery. Is it still there? (Valid question with no evidence of power)
  • Are the terminal clamps tight?
  • Are the terminals clean and free of corrosion?
  • Are all the belts in place and tight? (pay special attention to alternator)
  • If you have a voltmeter. test the voltage at the battery terminals. It should be +12.5VDC.
Try getting a jump, when the cables are attached does anything light up?
Does it turn over and start?
Does it do anything?

Comment me back with your findings
Mike

SOURCE: Lock actuator on rear door keeps locking and un

If the actuator is locking and unlocking ( I take it randomly, on its own?) then actuator must be o.k. but power going to it, is problem, such as relay etc, that may be in the system. It shouldn't be trying to lock and unlock itself, unless signal coming from elsewhere. You might want do a little more investigation before replacing a part unnecessarily. Get back with more details, symptoms, and we can help you figure this out.

It sounds like the door lock actuator in that door is malfunctioning, has anyone been in that door panel? If the actuator rod gets bent it can cause this to happen. Remove the door panel and either replace the actuator, straighten the rod or just unplug it and the rest of the doors should continue to work.

unlock all doors. if it isnt working, either your vacuum system has a leak (most likely no locks will operate automatically) or the actuator is bad. actuator pushes a pin forward from the trunk area into a hole in the door which keeps it shut/locked with doors locked.

shorted wiring in doors or shorted door lock actuator in door. A grounding of a wire makes them lock normally. SO, any bare wire touching metal will ground it and lock the doors.

Principles of Operations
The Door Switch Lock Function When a door lock switch is moved into the lock position or a door lock cylinder is rotated to the lock position, the door lock switch grounds the lock circuit input to the central security module (CSM). The CSM then provides 12 volts to one side of the door lock actuators contained in the door latch unit and simultaneously grounds the other side of the door lock actuators. This completes the door lock actuator circuit, causing the door lock actuators to rotate a cam assembly, which then locks the doors. The 12 volts that the CSM provides to the door lock actuators are provided to both door lock actuators from a single pin on the CSM electrical connector.
The Door Switch Unlock Function When a door lock switch is moved into the unlock position, the door lock switch grounds the unlock circuit input to the CSM. The CSM then provides 12 volts to the opposite side (relative to locking the door) of the door lock actuator(s) contained in the door latch unit and simultaneously grounds the other side of the door lock actuator(s). This completes the door lock actuator circuit, causing the door lock actuator(s) to rotate a cam assembly in the opposite direction, which the unlocks the door(s). The 12 volts which the CSM provides to the door lock actuator(s) are provided to each door lock actuator from the individual pins on the CSM electrical connector.
--------------------------------------------------------
CSM Self-Test The CSM has a self-test which can be entered into by using a diagnostic tool. This self-test will monitor the following CSM door lock inputs:
  • Unlock switch (DTC B1311)
  • Lock switch (DTC B1300)
  • Exterior lock switch (DTC B1309)
  • Exterior unlock switch (DTC B1341)
Before running the self-test, the following conditions must be met:
  • The ignition switch must be in position II
  • The driver and passenger doors must be unlocked
  • The driver and passenger doors must be opened
  • The hood and liftgate must be closed
  • The set/reset switch, and liftgate release switch are not actuated
It is important to note that all of the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), with the exception of B1551 and B1553 can be retrieved with the self-test. DTCs B1551, and B1553 are continuous and will only be retrieved if the liftgate release is operated prior to retrieving the continuous DTCs.
Inspection and Verification
  1. NOTE: Make sure that the battery is fully charged before starting electrical diagnosis.
NOTE: Prior to carrying out the CSM Self-Test, make sure that both the driver and passenger doors are open.
    Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

The CSM is in the passenger side kick panel I think.

Power door locks keep unlocking, and then when unlocked they keep clicking to unlock repeatedly, the car will not stay locked and had to disconnect the battery to keep it locked and so not to need a jump...

it could be a shoted wire to ground going to the door lock actuators or a bad door lock actuator.

Disconnect all door lock actuators & see what happens, If ok, connect one at a time and see which one acts up.

Central locking locks keep going up and down and not locking doors

The actuator could be bad inside the doors.
If they keep going up and down by themselves, you have a problem with the power door lock module, maybe.

Looking for fuse to shut down automatic locks

If the locks actuate while driving, usually it's due to the door pin switches that need a slight adjustment. As you drive and go over bumps or turns the body or doors flex slightle and the switch sees the door as open then closed and tells the body computer to lock doors again. Check for the black pin switch on door post near door catch and with a small flat blade screwdriver, pull the center cap of the plunger out about 1/8 inch from the black push in part and close door which will adjust the plunger again to correct depth.

door actuator is bad. just had to replace mine. it's either a $70 or $300 part depending on what door features you have plus about $200 for labor. if you doaon't fix it, the actuator could cease and your door won't close.
