SOURCE: replaced head gasket and intake gasket, redid timming, replaced injectors when driving down the road goto a stop it dies and i can restart the car then stop again it dies and restarts

It sounds like your not getting fuel you may want to get the map censore checked it controls the fuel and tells the fuel on which way to go. It sits on the top of the engine and its right hooks up to the injection system.

SOURCE: redid the cooling system complete

your engine has 2 bypass hoses coming off the air intake that wrap to the rear of the engine one may be blown but if you replace one might as well replace both the are only 5-6 bucks and have to be ordered from the dealership if that doesnt work id start looking to replace heater core before you start getting puddles in your floor board

My car heats up in stop n go traffic. The temperature gauge can go as high as to the 'RED'. I adding water and coolant everyday. Are the fans supposed to come on as I am driving and the car heats up?

if you are adding coolant every day then you are experiencing coolant loss
could be from a leaking pump gasket , head gasket or other leaking item
have a compression test done to check for head gasket , cracked head
next have the cooling system pressure tested to find the cooling leak
lastly check the fan, fan relay , fuses and coolant temp sensor unit for correct operation

Engine keeps over heating and I'm getting frustrated what can I do to fix this problem

blown head gasket or cracked head
have a compression test done to check
could be an air lock in the cooling system
could be blocked radiator cores
you let the car cool down but did you check the coolant level in the radiator at the cap and not at the reservoir
cooling fans not operational

2007 bmw 318 i is running hot

have a pressure test done on the cooling system to check for leaks. have a flow test done on the radiator to check for blocked cores. Have a compression test done to check for head gasket or cracks. If you have a viscous fan hub on the fan then replace it if the heating is indicated at stop lights and slow traffic. If automatic check that the transmission oil temperature is not overheating and putting that heat into the radiator from the oil cooler in the radiator tank

RADIATOR COOLING FAN NOT RUNNING COULD BE BAD ENGINE.COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS FAULTY IF COOLING FAN IS NOT TURNING ON AT SET TEMPERATURE OF 196 TO 203 DEGRESS.CHECK SEE COOLING FAN RUNNING WHEN ENGINE RUNNING HOT.IF YES FLUSH RADIATOR , FLUSH ENGINE BLOCK, HEATER CORE,REPLACE RADIATOR CAP.MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50/50 ANTIFREEZE AND WATER IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM.CHECK WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF LEAKING REPLACE WATER PUMP. IF COOLANT FAN DONT TURN ON 196 TO 203 DEGREES, YOU HAVE FAULTY COOLING FAN,SHORT IN FAN WIRING OR ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY.IGNITION TIMING WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT.

My civic did the same thing, twice, no over heating on the gauge, but the head gasket on both engines broke in the same place, #1 cyl. there is a TSB on the head gaskets, I replaced it with a felpro head gasket, had the head checked for cracks and decked, runs smooth and my wife gets 40 MPG
Pull the #1 spark plug and check for coolant on the plug. make sure you flush the cooling system.

Some radiators do not flush well...sometimes the flush will go around obstructions instead of through them and sometimes flushing will loosen debris which can plug cores that were open. It is possible that your radiator is marginal and not transferring heat properly. Temperature generally increases after shut-down for a short time and that will turn on
the fan. That part is normal...the item of concern is running hot at idle, in traffic.
Likely if you don't have any leaks and the head gasket is good, changing the radiator should help.

Heat gauge

Before getting too upset about this, try changing the temperature sender. Can't tell you where it is but it is usually on or near the thermostat housing but some engines have it on the intake manifold or rear of cyl head.
