SOURCE: My 2004 avalanche does not go in reverse. All

check your transmission fluid first.when full of fluid it should shift right.any problems,get stuck maybe? just all of sudden no reverse?will give you two solutions that may help.1st check your fluid,if low top it off with lucas transmission treatment which will free up any stuck valves it the transmission. you can find the lucas at autozone or advance auto for abot $11.00 a bottle but well worth the investment.if not low on fluid,disconnect the positive cable from battery for 10minutes this will reset the entire computer system.if this does'nt help suggest you change transmission fluid and filter and still add the lucas treatment to it.and if none of these solutions help,sorry it will need to go to the shop.thank you for choosing fixya.com and wish you the very best of luck!

prey its electrical but unfortunately sounds like you, my friend have a blown transmission...get it towed to aamco to be sure but thats the exact same thing that happened to one of my cars. $1000 and 30+ hours of my time (after it shipped) later, i had a used transmission, and personally installed it. its often times cheaper than getting the current one fixed. good luck man.

Hi..I have a 2004 Chev Avalanche 1500 4x4 5.3litre...I just lost heating on the drivers side-ok on passenger side (has climate controls for both sides)...what is causing this?? big repair?? can I check...

I have had this problem with my 04 Avalanche. It happened when I changed the battery. I replaced the climate control @ $475. When the battery went down another time, the same thing happened only in reverse (warm on the other side) I asked around and found that you can remove the dash trim pnl. and take out x2 screws that hold the controller in place, unplug it for 1 or 2 minuets and reattach. this will "reboot" the controller. I had to preform this procedure 2 times but it fixed the issue @ $0 and is simple. Has worked fine since.

I have a 2002 avalanche and last night I lost all power steering. Fluid level is fine, didn't make any noise. It has 160'000 miles.

The pump shaft most likely has sheared off. Be sure to replace the pump with a NEW GM PUMP. do not use some reman or rebuilt pump.

Location of the transmission switch on a 04 Avalanche. Vehicle will move in reverse, but not in drive.

The switch is on the drivers side, above the pan, where the cable attaches, but I dont think that will get the trans moving.

2004 AVALANCHE--SOMETHING DRAINS THE BATTERY WHEN VEHICAL SITS. CAN FIND NO DRAIN ON BATTERY.

if you can start it with a jump but battery doesn't hold a charge it sounds like you have a bad cell or two in your battery. Take it to your local Autozone and have it checked for free

Chevy avalanche transmission problems

Hello;
Are you getting the check engine light? If so the electronics may have gone out. You may not need a rebuild but you won't know till you pull the oil pan on the transmission and inspect the contents. You may also have lost the neutral safety switch. It is mounted on the drivers side of the transmission. Check those out first and let me know what codes you get.
For Ponchoboy; the clunking and hissing you hear are teminal root causes. Drop the oil pan and if it has a lot of filings and metal it is time for a rebuild.
Hope this helps; Rate me highly;
