Have a smoke test done you have a small evap leak can be anywhere in the fuel connections but a smoke test will help
find it as long as he's a good mechanic

this obd2 trouble code table can help you understand the meaning of code.
for this code, you can try,
Repair damaged EVAP lines or canister.
Repair open or short in voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid.
Repair open in PCM purge command circuit.
Replace purge Solenoid.
Replace vacuum switch.
Repair restriction in Evap line or canister or soleniod.
Repair resistance in purge connector.
Replace PCM.

Code large air leak (emmission light stays on)

You need the code
Then you find the problem in the EVAP System
An EVAP Smoke Machine, would have you making the repair in about 3 minutes.
So unless you can find a loose hose,broken fitting Etc,you need professional help.
Then the job is completed with a scanner to test system, I doubt your spending 8 thousand for that piece of test equip.
Now you know why cars cost a lot to fix.

I have a 2002 mercury cougar that wont pass pa emissions test. when i check the readiness staus it shows the evap system still hasnt completed its tests. theres no dtc's and i drove it all over trying to...

could be ur o2 sensors or clogged catalytic converter these have a lot to do with emmission sometimes its a bad gas cap number one problem evap get a new one and check code again the cap has a seal that if it leaks gives you evap code

Evap code po 442 checked all hoses gas cap is ok reset light came back on after a few days.

There are two 02 sensors on yor exhast system. One before the muffler and another after the cat converter. The one one after the cat conv is the one that trips the lamp. The converter is either failing or your emmissions are excessive and the converter can't burn them off. If you feel the cap and vapor recovery is associated with your problem, It is possible if the vapr recovery solenoid is dumping to much into the engine. So, Have the vapor valve chk'd then go for the #2 02 sensor if it doesn't clear the light. Good Luck _Ned_

2001 Ram 3 error code come up, are there related? P0123 P1596 P0455 Thanks , I just bought the truck 2 months ago and at that time it was emmission tested and it passed. Im in ontario!!!

123 is TP sensor , 455 is leak in evap system, quite often bad gas cap seal or not on tight, if not that, check all hoses to evap canister & purge solenoid for possible leak. 1596 is speed control switch malfunction. If vehicle not experiencing any driveability problem, I would disconnect battery for a few seconds to erase codes, then drive it for a while & see if they come back.

I would try to clean out the egr valve , check for leaks at the evap canister, check the evap canister soleniod , and lastly change out the cat convertor, The cat convertor is most likely under the federal emmission warranty of 8 yrs,.80000 miles. You can take the vehicle in to have checked by local dealer or call gm customer service to check the warranty on the cat. convertor by giving them your vehicle number.

cat is probably gone if it is the stock one, but i also know the mass air flow sensor could be the problem, and its also the cheaper of the two things you could do (MAS or pre-cat). you can try cleaning it with the spray stuff they sell at any local auto store. readings online say this car running rich will kill the catalizer in two weeks so you might want to keep that in mind.
