Location of the EGR valve for yaris year 2008 as engine is misfiring and scanner indicate EGR faulty. Is it possible and if there is one

The egr valve should be located on or very near the inlet manifold it usually has a stainless steel pipe running towards it these can be cleaned and that's where the fault may lie with it as they clog up and stop working usually if the egr valve is flogged up you may need to check the inlet manifold as this gets worse than the egr aswell at the same time

Faulty EGR valves do not cause "false" misfire codes. An EGR valve that is not closing properly can cause misfires (and misfire codes) but they are REAL misfires when this happens.

To understand this, you need to understand what a misfire is and what kinds of things can cause them. It is a very LONG list and I do not have the time or space to get into all that here.

You will also need to understand this if you are going to properly diagnose your misfire codes without wasting a whole bunch of money on parts that you do not need. MANY things can cause misfires other than spark plugs and ignition coils.

I do not know what EGR code you are getting, but I will tell you that in the 37 years that I have been diagnosing and repairing cars, there has only been once that I can remember that I have ever replaced an EGR valve on a Ford engine because the valve itself was faulty. Most EGR codes on Fords are caused by either clogged-up EGR ports or a bad DPFE sensor. Every so often you will find a bad EGR control solenoid or a broken vacuum line, but it is extremely rare that the EGR valve itself the cause. With the exception of leaking vacuum lines and on certain engines, clogged EGR ports (Like the 6 individual EGR ports in the 4.2L engine), none of these causes for EGR codes will cause any misfires.

Also, most of the time when people pull the trigger on the ignition coils on the 5.4L and 4.6L engines, all the thing really needs is new spark plug boots. They get contaminated with oil and water and can cause carbon-tracking on the spark plugs and/or arcing into the spark plug wells instead of sending the spark through the spark plug. It is pretty much the same thing as having bad spark plug wires on a conventional ignition system. You don't throw the coil and distributor away on a conventional system because it needs new wires. Neither should you replace a coil on a COP ignition system that just needs a boot. Some auto makers do not make the boots available seperate from the coil. Ford at least had the insight to understand that people cannot afford the cost of replacing all of their coils just because the boots are defective.

Exactly what does this code means:--
Basically this means that the the car's computer has detected that not all of the engine's cylinders are firing properly.
A P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why.
Symptoms:--
the engine may be harder to start.the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate.
other symptoms may also be present…There may be rough idle, sputters and stalls and jerks.
Causes:--
A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plugs or wires, Faulty coil (pack), Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector(s),Burned exhaust valve, Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages, Faulty camshaft position sensor, Defective computer.
Possible solutions for this error problem:--
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the vehicle, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.
Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or un-metered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.

EGR code keeps coming on


It may be, but the code will specify what the problem is as a lot of things can trigger an EGR code. There are numerous codes that relate to the EGR, but the individual code will usually pinpoint what the issue is.
Some causes could be the DPFE sensor is faulty; there is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup; the EGR valve is faulty; the EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum

P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient Detected The EGR system is monitored during steady state driving conditions while the EGR is commanded on. The test fails when the signal from the DPF EGR sensor indicates that EGR flow is less than the desired minimum.

with the codes you have here I would look in the direction of the egr valve first because that will cause the bucking and stalling, and the misfires, but so will the canister vent solonoid. the misfire codes and the cylinder overtemp code could be from overheating or because if the misfires.

Check for

vacuum leaks on intake manifold,

the air tube between the air filter.

intake manifold vacuum hose.

Also remove carbon built up behind the EGR valve and the EGR passage tube.

Vacuum leak WILL offset the intended 14.7 to 1 air fuel ratio.

More un-metered air (leaks) will lean out the fuel mixture.

Use small amount of Berryman carb clearer at potential air leak area will help you identify trouble spot.

At idle,just spray and listen for the RPM surge.

The in-rush of carb clearer will increase the RPM on the motor.

Record the problem spot(s) and address it later.

EGR carbon built up require 2+ hours to clean from start to finish.

You will need a new EGR base gasket before your start.

Locate and remove the EGR valve after the vehicle is cool down.

Carefully record the connector and vacuum line (for older vehicle) location by drawing an easily to follow diagram.

Remove the EGR valve.

Inspect the location of the carbon built-up inside the valve and the EGR passage tube.

SOAK these areas with WD-40 spary.

You will need a small screwdriver,cloth hanger and lot of newspaper and time to get this cleaning done right.

RE-SOAK the carbon and let it sit for over-night will also help.

One the last round,pass a shop vacuum of the EGR valve and the passage pipe.

Install the new EGR gasket and connectors.

Allow the vehicle to warm up outdoor to burn up any remaining WD-40.


Take it for a test drive.
