Broken cable. try operating the gearshift while looking for the operation on the transmission itself. raise hood and observe the transmission.

then the transmission has failed or has sticking engagement solenoid in trans pan, have the fluid and filter replaced and see if that corrects the problem

SOURCE: ford focus will not engage

there could be any number of things causing this problem. start with the easy one, check your tran fluid, you will have to let the car warm up and check it while the car is running. p.s. locate the trans dip stick under the hoodwill be on the side of trans. if the fluid level checks good check you trans shift linkage make sure it is attached properly. you may need to find some one to help you with this. if it is ok your trans filter may need changed. you will have to remove the trans oil pan for this(it can be messy) you may want a shop to do this if you have'nt done it before, next cause could be a computer malfuction with tranny sinsors or you trans bands are wore and need to be replaced.

A carrier bearing usually pertains to the differential assembly and would not cause the symptom you describe. There is a problem with this transmission that causes it to not drop completely to first gear after a period of driving. Ford is aware of it but I do not believe they have initiated a recall. Call your Ford dealer(s) to see if you can find an honest man. Ask for the service manager.

2000 ford focus, manual, the stick stick flops around not engaged

There are three posibilities for this worn linkage on the gearbox the linkage under gear lever or a broken mounting on the bracket where the lever comes up through the floor as long as you can get all gears it will be exturnal linkage fault.

02 ford ranger transmission slips on small incline when put in park.

Check your transmission fluid level. Add if it is low. Your Ranger may at some point need a transmission rebuild. This involves pulling the transmission from beneath the truck and replacing the individual gears. Rebuilds are needed when the gear teeth (the grooved serrated edge of a gear) begin to wear. When this happens the gears cannot engage completely and the transmission will begin to slip.

I have a ford escort 1.8si mk 7 56000 on clock, when i put car in 3rd gear it makes a noise, not sure where noise is coming from and it doest sound like grinding noise it starts quiet and gets louder, once...

The car is a manual tranny car, your synchromesh gear is not engaging properly, take to a tranny shop to check it as a bearing may be out in 3rd gear.
Hope it resove your query.

06 ford focus 5spd. no 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear.

It sound like the gear linkage isn,t set up right, you wouldn,t always be able to engage a gear unless you rocked the car.

since this is a standard and you need to engage the clutch which basically shifts you into neutral to shift gears, this ALMOST sounds like the idle air control valve.
