Most partstores will test battery altenator and starter for free. Either your battery is dead or your connections are not metal to metal contact, or you starter relay may be shot. You can put key in on position and either test with a voltmeter or use a screwdriver and jump terminals on solenoid to see if starter turns.

SOURCE: battery light on volt gauge is ok new altenator and battery

It is the two or three wire connector on the top side of the alternator. Either a wire has broke before the plug or there is a problem with the plugs terminals. The dealer sells a repair pig-tail if you need it.

What is wrong when the battery light comes on while driving?

The battery light comes on when there is an issue with the charging system. Likely your alternator is no longer able to keep up wth the accessories that where on and the charging voltage was dropping to about battery voltage. This is pretty easy to check with a voltmeter. Check voltage at the battery terminals. With the engine off you should see around 12.4 volts. With the ingle running and all the accessories turned on you should see more than 13.5 volts and closer or more than 14 volts would be ideal. If you don't have that than it's probably time for a new alternator.

Battery light

Its probably the alternator.
The warning light comes on anytime alternator output drops below 12 volts.
I should also tell you, you can't check an alternator by running the engine with the battery disconnected. The alternator needs the battery in series for the diodes to work. What you did could have damaged the alternator and also the engine computer. Only generators can be checked by disconnecting the battery.

Battery wont charge, battery/ABS/SRS/BRAKE lights come on while driving and flicker. voltage increases to dash lights/fan speed/headlights periodically.

Get a volt meter, start your car and see how many volts your car is producing while running. Should be around 14 volts. May want to watch the meter for a while since your electric seems to fluctuate. Most voltage regulators are internal of your alternator. If you are getting a lot more or less than 14 volts while running, replace the alternator. If it is not charging, voltage will drop as vehicle runs, until battery is dead.

i would check the battery first. when the vehicle is not running the battery should have at least 11 volts, if not then the battery would be bad. when the vehicle is running, it should have at least 13.5 volts. a real good charging system would have close to 14 volts. if you do not find that the battery is bad and you are able to start your vehicle check the battery to see if it has the min. of 13.5 volts. if the voltage is dropping, then you have a bad alternator.

1. Check the voltage on the White/Red wire at the 2-pin connector on the alternator. Key on engine off there should be near zero volts and when the engine is running and the alternator is charging the voltage should the charging system voltage (13.8 - 14.2 volts). Voltage drop the alternator case to battery negative. Voltage drop the battery positive circuit to the Black/Red wire (Large wire on output post) and the Yellow/Black wire in the 2-pin connector (sensing voltage). Looking for 0.05 volts maximum.

2. Disconnect the 2-pin connector at the alternator when the engine is running and the alternator light is on. The light should go out. If not, then there is a circuit problem (shorted to ground).

The battery in my car is about 2yrs old and now

Generally the light will come on when the charging rate drops below normal, though sometimes it can actually go above. If wiring is intact, drive-belt is tight and battery tests good (age does not matter), the problem may be either a diode or regulator beginning to fail inside the alternator.
To get a good "ballpark" idea of how your system is working, put a volt meter on the battery and run it. Voltage should be about 13,5 volts then turn on all accessories. volts should not drop below 12,5 and should not slowly drop below 12volts.

check battery cable for tightness and no corrosion.if all is well charge the battery or jump start it. while engine running check to see if the alternator is charging it.it should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts while engine idling.turn off engine battery voltage should be 12.5. if drops to 11.0 to 10.0 volts.battery is weak.if car running the voltage should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts alternator is charging. if the voltage is 11.8 to 11.0 volts. alternator is not charging.
