Why my 2002 cadillac seville sls wont stay started

If it starts for around 3-5 seconds and then stalls, it is most likely the antitheft security system. The system has been known to regularly fail and cause owners the be stranded by their own vehicle's antitheft system.

Security light on 2002 Buick Century

The security light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. Remember too, the TDM controls the security light. Sometimes you can have ALL the symptoms and no lights.

My blazer will start but wont stay running long and the security light is on too and this after i put a new motor and trans in it it has been sitting over a year so i was needing help

By switching out the motor, you have most likely interrupted the antitheft system. The security light proves this. The engine starts, looks for the proper key code, doesn't see it, shuts down the injectors. There is a way to bypass this. Read thru this web page. Should find everything you need to know.

Wont start security light stays on

My girlfriend had the same problem, so we took it to the local dealer in Costa Mesa, CA and were told she needed a new engine to the tune of 5K. We decided to take it to our local mechanic and he discovered that the “ignition control box”, which apparently has the antitheft controls too and shuts the flow of gas to the engine because it thinks its being stolen when it malfunctions, was causing the starting problem. Once, the box was replaced it worked fine. Because the IBC controls antitheft, it will need to be “reprogrammed” be someone that has access to the proper equipment or the dealer. I think the whole thing was about $800 - $900. Sure beats $5,000

Hope this helps,
