To remove the drivers mirror of your 2005 pontiac vibe. Please follow the process below:
Remove the plastic shards of mirror lens from the mirror shell,
If any of the shards are still stuck to the mirror, pull them off the motor and discard them,
Sweep any small shards out of the shell with a vacuum cleaner,
Place the new mirror lens into the mirror shell, the lens has a small metal bracket on the back of it that fits over the motor.
The tight fit of the mirror in the shell forces the bracket to line up with the motor.
Push the mirror bracket onto the motor by pushing on the center of the mirror lens with your hand. You will feel the bracket snap into place.
But if you want to remove the entire mirror, then you will have to follow the steps below for the DIY process:
To replace the outside mirror, the door panel needs be taken off to get to theretaining nuts and the wiring.
You will need a few common tools--Phillips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, and a 10mm socket and ratchet. No special tools are required.
Remove the Phillips screws located in the arm rest.
Remove the screw in the door handle.
Remove any screws that may be located around the circumference of the door panel.
Use the common screwdriver and insert it in between the door panel and the door and pry out the trim fasteners around the circumference of the door panel.
These trim fasteners are plastic plugs with serrated edges on the shank and pushed into holes on the door. Once these are removed, lift the bottom of the door panel straight up to unlatch the panel from the top horizontal ledge.
If the vehicle happens to be a Ford, it uses downward facing hooks on the door panel that hook into the door. Simply lift straight up to remove the hooks.
Bring the door panel just far enough to remove the door handle rods if necessary.
Disconnect the power window electrical connectors. Remove the lower door panel's marker light connector.
Disconnect the power outside-mirror electrical connector and then using the 10mm socket, remove the three retaining nuts on the backside of the outside mirror.
Withdraw the mirror and studs from the door.
Install the electrical connector for the new mirror through the opening in the door and line up the studs on the mirror with the holes in the door and push it through.
Install the nuts on the backside. Connect the electrical connector.
Hold the door panel close to the door and connect all the electrical connectors.
Tip the bottom of the door panel outward slightly to attach the top curved surface to the horizontal channel.
Lower the bottom of the door panel and line up the trim fasteners with the holes in the door. Once lined up, push them into the holes to hook the door panel.
Replace all the screws in reverse order of removal.

Hi Jene, there should be a 3 way switch above the rear view mirror to control the lights. The 3 positions are 1.all the way over to one side = Off, 2 in the centre position = Door Open & 3. all the way over to the other side = Always On. There may be a similar switch at the centre dome light. Also have you waited for the light to go out? sometimes these lights are on a time delay. Trust this helps, regards Alan
Any chance you are close to the car when this happens? You could be seeing a security-system interaction. Outlander ES features a standard remote keyless entry system, and all models include a standard anti-theft engine immobilizer and security alarm system. Outlander Special Edition, LS and XLS models add the FAST-Key system that allows the driver to unlock the vehicle simply by having the remote in a pocket or purse and grasping the handle on either of the front doors or the tailgate.
The FAST-Key system provides both convenience and security, since the driver does not need to search for a key or remote control while carrying packages, or when in a poorly lit area, for example. The system operates when the driver (carrying the remote unit) is within 27 inches of the front doors or the tailgate. While walking into that range, the system verifies the user i.d. Bioelectrical sensors are built into the door handles, and when the person carrying the remote grasps one of the handles, the door unlocks: grasping the driver's door handled unlocks only that door; grasping the front passenger door handle will unlock all four doors and the tail gate.
