Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Low hour generator, each start blows oil smoke for about 30 seconds. I assume it is sucking oil into cylinder on shutdown. I cant find a breather or pvc valve to check for restriction. Any ideas?

Air filter ok? Oil level not too high?

Posted on Apr 15, 2015

Testimonial: "Both are good. This is an Onan Elite 140, propane only. Maybe 5 hours max on it. It's always had the issue. Out of warranty long ago of course!"

I have a feeling the propane pressure is not right, or the propane carburetor is a little off.

Smoke from a side pipe

Leaking exhaust pipes and deflated radiator can be the result of this. Better start with the radiator first and check if its deflated. Also make sure the pipes are tightly mounted and double check any leak.

Renault Scenic 2001 - burning oil, good compressions

That shoul be enough compression and if same that is a good sign check for bad Breather or PCV valve, engine has to breath or pressure will force oil. also HOW MUCH OIL DO YOU HAVE / What does the dip stick read. Could be bad intake valve seals / Valve guides.

Why would oil be in my coolant?

Oil in coolant, white smoke at start up = blown head gasket or cracked cylinder.

White smoke is water vapor from coolant. Only at startup indicates a small (extremely small) leak -- it will get bigger. Only at startup is because as engine cools it sucks water into cylinder. A compression check will tell you which cylinder is the problem (could be multiple)

It sounds like the water is circulating back up thru the wrong way, and it is sucking water and oil into the breather. it takes forever to start but timing is correct. there is spark and gas. once it...

There is a big chance that you have blow up the cylinder head or the gasket betewen the engine and the cylinder head.
There is a job for a mechanic or may be you can do that job for your self if you know the matter.
Good luck

Oil found in breather tube and intake 2005 Caviler 2.2 what can cause this?

when you decelerate the vacuum caused sucks the air/oil from the crankcase, lubricating the engine,if excesive you get smoke from the tailpipe.then rings are suspect.(blowpast)
also if too thin (5/30) an oil is used in an older engine (10/40)it will have the same symptoms.

Its blowing oil out of the oil cap why would this be ?? also i bit of white smoke then came out the back

The oil level may be too high.
Is the filler cap tight?
blow-by in the cylinder piston rign area. A wet test of engine compression will detect this.
A bad had gasket. Engine will be over heating as water is being used up during combustion.
Bad head gasket. Could explain white smoke in exhaust.

If the engine is overheating I would be suspecting a problem in the head area.

Good Luck. SnugglePants

1994 jetta III gl oil in the air intake hose

Sounds to me you blow by. Thats when either rings on the pistons are worn letting oil pass by or you have a scorned cylinder which also is letting oil get by. Should get a compression check done to make sure.
