Keep getting code p0022

Put in new timing chain kit new cam phasers replaced both cam sensors in the valve covers and new oil pump but after a short drive when creeping up the motor runs rough and check engine light comes on with code p0022 what in the hell is going on

You should check the make sure the thermostat operates normally and that the fuel octane is 87 or higher (usually the lowest grade available at the station, so I doubt this is the issue). If your engine temperature isn't too high and the fuel is 87 octane or more, I'd expect you probably have a catalytic converter issue

I was wondering if you scanned this vehicle or guessed on which parts to replace? You can get a free scan at Autozone or Oreillys. Even if you have an basic scanner, there are some scanners that Autozone and repair shops use which list ALL the potential problems starting with the most likely.

There should be a MAF sensor on the Air intake bonnet. It can be cleaned with Electrical spray, but not a solvent liike Choke or Brake cleaner. If that does not help try misting the gaskets on the Intake manifold and Airhorn with a water spray bottle. Do this with the engine running or even use Choke cleaner. Either way, the RPM will change if you find a leak. Since your "Check Light" is on anyway, it would not hurt to plug the Vacuum line to the EGR valve and see if the hesitation stops when you accelerate.

Then check the EGR for a bad diaphram if the motor runs better without it. The scan at Autozone should show the mechanical defects, but it will not show bad gas. You might as well change the fuel filter and do a gas sample at the same time. A lot of people have put a ton of money into their vehicles only to find they didn't need to.

It won't cost you much to try what I suggested, and I think you have already replaced the most popular parts. Would be curious to know what you found out about your vehicle.

there is also a small valve body you are supposed to replace when replaceing the phasers... also there is a ssm for replacing the valve lash adjusters. alot of time the small engine tick you hear can be a cracked exhaust manifold too so checking those really close is heavily advised because the cracks are really hard to see sometimes. i have seen broken push rods on these engines and they can be a pain to pinpoint where the noise is comming from. hope this helps

possible vacuum leak / take a spray bottle of water and with the engine running check all your hoses and gaskets

Obd code p0014 on isuzu ascender 2006


Its a cam over-retarded code.

I believe this is a rebranded chevy trailblazer. I would start with an exhaust cam actuator which is located right next to the power steering pump. 90% of the time this will fix the problem. If it does not than it is possible there is an issue with the timing chain or a PCM issue.

Instructions
  1. Remove Your Timing Chain
    • 1 Check your owner's manual for the recommended mileage for replacing your timing chain. Replacement for a Nissan Altima is 60,000 miles.
    • 2 Locate the timing chain. Replace it if the automatic chain adjuster (also known as the tensioner) is damaged or worn.
    • 3 Drain the cooling system and disengage the negative battery cable. Undo the spark plug wires and set the No. 1 piston at "Top Dead Center" (TDC) of the compression stroke.
    • 4 Disconnect the engine undercover, vacuum and fuel hoses, harness and connectors, drive belts, power steering reservoir, alternator and bracket, upper radiator hose, air duct, front exhaust tube, intake manifold collector supports, collector and exhaust manifold and the distributor.
    • 5 Prop up the oil pan and take out the front engine mounting, the valve cover, camshaft sprockets, cam bearing caps, camshafts, cylinder head bolts (reverse the installation order), cam sprocket cover, upper chain tensioner, chain guides and chain, idler sprocket bolt, cylinder head, intake manifold and cylinder head gasket and the steel oil pan.
    • 6 Place a steel cutter between the steel and aluminum oil pans. Slip the cutter around the oil pan's edge. Disengage the steel oil pan, baffle plate, oil strainer and the front tube.
    • 7 Secure the car on jack stands and place a seal cutter in between the oil pan and cylinder block. Slip the cutter around the oil pan's edge.
    Install Your Timing Chain
    • 8 Reconnect the crankshaft sprocket, oil pump drive spacer, idler sprocket and lower timing chain. Position the lower timing chain on the sprockets and line up the mating marks.
    • 9 Rub on an unbroken bead of liquid gasket and put in a new front cover and oil seal. Secure the bolt at 105 to 112 foot pounds (142 to 152 Nm).
    • 10 Eliminate any old material from the pan and cylinder block mounting surfaces. Rub on a 3.5 to 4.5mm bead of liquid gasket over the oil pan and cylinder block.
    • 11 Attach the upper timing chain to the idler sprockets and secure the cylinder head bolts.
    • 12 Refill the cooling system and add clean oil in the engine.
    • 13 Hook up the negative battery cable and any other disconnected parts or items. Start the engine and look for leaks.

Timing Chain, Sprockets, Front Cover and Seal REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Crankshaft Damper and Front Oil Seal
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Accessory drive belt
    • Cooling fans
    • Crankshaft pulley and damper, using a holding fixture as shown
    • Front crankshaft seal Fig. 1: Crankshaft pulley removal tool - V8 9301jg12.gif
    To install:
  3. Install oil seal replacer tool JD-235 to the oil seal. Use the nut and bolt provided with the tool to fully seat the seal to the timing cover.
  4. For dampers which DO NOT utilize a spit locking ring:
    1. Apply a thin, even coating of Loctite® 648 to the damper bore. Do not apply it to the end faces or to the crankshaft.
    2. Install the crankshaft damper onto the crankshaft. Wipe off any Loctite that has squeezed out from the front of the damper.
    3. Install the locking tool to the damper. Tighten the bolt to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm), plus an 80 degree turn.
  5. For dampers which utilize a spit locking ring:
    1. Install a new O-ring seal to the damper.
    2. Install the crankshaft damper.
    3. Apply petroleum jelly to the damper bore and O-ring seal.
    4. Install the damper onto the crankshaft.
    5. Install the split locking ring onto the crankshaft, inside the center bore of the damper.
    6. Install the locking tool to the damper.
    7. Tighten the damper bolt to 266-285 ft. lbs. (364-386 Nm).
    8. Remove the locking tool from the damper.
  6. Install or connect the following:
    • Cooling fans
    • Accessory drive belt
    • Negative battery cable
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
Timing Cover
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Upper radiator hose
    • Accessory drive belt

  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    • Accessory drive belt
    • Valve cover
    • Timing chain cover
    • Variable Valve Timing (VVT) sensor
    • Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor
  3. Rotate the crankshaft until the triangular arrow indent on the driveplate is visible through the access hole.
  4. Install the Crankshaft Setting Peg JD 216 into the CKP sensor location.
  5. Install the Camshaft Locking tool JD 215 on the camshafts.
  6. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Camshaft sprocket mounting bolt by loosening it
    • VVT mounting bolt by loosening it
    • Camshaft Locking tool JD 215
    • Primary timing chain tensioner and backing plate
    • Primary timing chain guide
    • VVT unit and exhaust camshaft sprocket
    • Secondary timing chain tensioner and guide
    NOTE: Keep all valvetrain components in order for assembly. To install:
  7. Prepare the timing chain tensioners for installation by using a paperclip or other wire to unseat the check valves and compressing the pistons into their bores.
  8. Install or connect the following:
    • Secondary timing chain guide. Tighten the bolt to 89-124 inch lbs. (10-14 Nm).
    • Secondary timing chain tensioner. Tighten the bolt to 89-124 inch lbs. (10-14 Nm).
    • VVT, secondary timing chain and exhaust cam sprocket
    • Primary timing chain
    • Primary timing chain guide. Tighten the bolt to 10-12 ft. lbs. (13-16 Nm).
    • Primary timing chain tensioner and backing plate. Tighten the bolts to 89-124 inch lbs. (10-14 Nm).
    • Primary timing chain slack, eliminate it by placing a wedge between the primary timing chain tensioner and the guide shoe

    • Exhaust and intake VVT sprocket bolts. Tighten them to 85-92 ft. lbs. (115-125 Nm).
  9. Remove the tools and wedges.

    • Coolant outlet pipe
    • ECT sensor connector
    • Radiator and heater hoses
    • Timing chain cover
    • Valve cover
    • Accessory drive belt
    • Negative battery cable

2007 Ford F-250, 5.4 Engine-Missing, running very rough at idle-very low idle. Engine codes P0011, P0022, P0171, P0300, P0305, P0307, P0316, P2198.


Hello, There is an extended Warranty for "Cam Phasers". I want to say 7 Years and 90,000 Miles. But some of the repairs are on a case by case basis. Years 2004-2008 were affected.

I will tell you what your Codes mean.p0011 and p0022 are both for the Camshaft position sensors. One side is overadvanced and the other is retarded. Code p 0171 is an O2 sensor, Code 0300 is random misfiring, Codes p0305 and 0307 are the #5 and #7 cylinder misfires. Code p0316 is a general misfire when starting up, and finally the p2198 is a rich condition O2 sensor on bank2 sensor 1.

All of these make sense when the Cam on bank 1 is over advanced you will run lean and the Cam on bank 2 is retarded, you will run rich. The misfires are from incorrect timing and affected fuel mix.

There are "cheater tools" for this repair which will cut Labor costs in half. Check the Web for Mac tools, Snap-on, and so forth. The cheater works by pressing down on the internal chain tensioner to make slack in the timing chain. You take off the valve covers and unbolt the Cam (Phaser) gear and sneak it out through the valve cover opening. The CAM PHASERS cost $300 to $500 apiece.

A normal repair without the cheater involves removing the front of the motor up to the heads and still requires removing the valve covers.

I hope my solution is very helpful to you, at least you know why you are getting the Codes you are reading.

Head gasket got bent and I have replaced it . Now the problem I'm facing is how to set the crank shaft and the comshaft timing. I need the procedure for engine timing


Timing Chain & Gears Removal & Installation To Remove:
NOTE: Keep the cam chain away from magnetic fields.
Crankshaft set at TDC marks hnda_trk_crv_crank_tdc_marks.gif

  1. Turn the crankshaft pulley so its Top Dead Center (TDC) mark (1) lines up with the pointer (2).
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the front tires/wheels. Front undercar splash shield hnda_trk_crv_frt_under_splsh_shld.gif

  4. Remove the front undercar splash shield.
  5. Remove the drive belt.
  6. Remove the cylinder head cover (See section on Valve Cover).
  7. Remove the crankshaft pulley (See section on Crankshaft Damper). CKP sensor and VTC solenoid electrical connectors hnda_trk_crv_ckp_vtc_ele_conn.gif

  8. Disconnect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor connector (1) and Variable Valve Timing Control (VTC) oil control solenoid valve connector (2).
  9. Remove the VTC oil control solenoid valve (See section on VTC Solenoid Valve).
  10. Support the engine with a jack and wood block under the oil pan. Ground cable and upper bracket removal hnda_trk_crv_grnd_cbl_uppr_brckt_rem.gif

  11. Remove the ground cable (1), and remove the upper bracket (2). Side engine mount bracket removal hnda_trk_crv_side_eng_mount_brckt_rem.gif

  13. Remove the timing chain cover bolts both from the front to the block and from the bottom to the oil pan.
  14. Remove the timing chain cover.
  15. Loosely install the crankshaft pulley. Compress the timing chain auto-tensioner hnda_trk_crv_compr_tim_chain_auto_tensnr.gif

  16. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to compress the auto-tensioner. Lock the timing chain auto-tensioner hnda_trk_crv_lock_tim_chain_auto_tensnr.gif

  17. Align the holes on the lock (1) and the auto tensioner (2), and then insert a 0.06 inch (1.5 mm) diameter pin (3) into the holes.
  18. Turn the crankshaft clockwise to secure the pin. Removal of the timing chain auto-tensioner hnda_trk_crv_rem_tim_chain_auto_tensnr.gif

  19. Remove the auto-tensioner. Removal of the timing chain guide B hnda_trk_crv_rem_tim_chain_guide.gif

How do i take the heads off of the motor and whats the specks to put a new one back on


I don't recommend that unless you have a full set of tools and a lot pf patience and organizational skills. But here goes. Remove the coolant, drain the oil, disconnect the battery cable. remove the spark plug wires. Remove all cables and wires going to the intake. Remove the air cleaner and hoses connected to it. Remove all heater hoses and raciator hoses. Remove all the vacuum lines, remove the fuel lines,caution they are pressurized and may spray gas into the engine compartment. Remove the serpintene belt and alternator, air pump, and ac compressor. Remove timeing chain cover. Remove timing chain. Note where the timing marks are on the crankshaft and on the cam or cams if you have more than one cam. Remove the intake manifold, remove valve covers. If you have have push rods for the valves remove them. You will have to back off the pressure on the valve lifters to remove most of them. Remove the head bolts and lift the head free of the engine. Keep everything in perfect order. The water pump and timing chain often uses different length bolts that must be put back in the same holes. Also the push rods are supposed to be put back in the exact order as some may have worn more than others. To reinstall just clean all gasket surfaces on the head, engine block, intake and exhaust manifolds, valve covers, timing chain cover, thermostat cover, etc. I would go ahead and replace the timing belt or chain, depending on which engine you have. I would also go ahead and replace the spark plugs and wires too. Once everything is cleaned up, just reverse the order

How to change Oil Pump


3.3L Engine

The lubrication system is a full flow filtration system pressure feed type. Oil from the oil pan is pumped by an internal gear type oil pump directly coupled to the crankshaft. Its pressure is regulated by a relief valve located in the timing chain case cover. The oil is pumped through an oil filter and feeds a main oil gallery. This oil gallery feeds oil under pressure to the main and rod bearings and the camshaft bearings. Passages in the cylinder block feed oil to the hydraulic lifters and rocker shaft brackets which feeds the rocker arm pivots.
It is necessary to remove the oil pan, oil pump pick-up tube and timing Chain Case Cover (CCC) to service the oil pump rotors. The oil pump pressure relief valve can be serviced by removing the oil pan and oil pickup tube.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and drain the cooling system.
  2. Remove the radiator assembly.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4. Drain the engine oil. Remove the oil filter.
  5. Disconnect the sway bar and place it to the rear of the vehicle to gain access to the oil pan.
  6. Remove the transmission support brackets and inspection cover.
  7. Remove the oil pan and the oil pump pick-up tube.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Remove the accessory drive belts and tensioner pulley bracket.
  10. Remove the power steering pump and set aside. Remove the air compressor mounting bolts and set compressor aside. Remove the compressor mounting bracket. It is not necessary to disconnect the refrigerant lines or evacuate the refrigerant from the air conditioning system.
  11. Using an appropriate puller, remove the crankshaft pulley.
  12. Remove the tensioner pulley bracket.
  13. Remove the camshaft sensor from the chain case cover.
  14. Remove the timing chain case cover mounting bolts and the cover from the front of the engine.
  15. Clean the gasket material from the mating surfaces of the cover and the block.
  16. Remove the oil pump cover retaining screws from the timing cover. Lift off the oil pump cover.
  17. Remove the pump rotors. Wash all parts in solvent and inspect carefully for damage or wear.

To install:
  1. Clean all parts well. Assemble the oil pump with new parts as required. Install the inner rotor with chamfer facing the cast iron oil pump cover.
  2. Install the pump cover and tighten the fasteners to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  3. Prime the oil pump prior to installation by filling the rotor cavity with clean engine oil.
  4. Remove the crankshaft oil seal from the front cover.
  5. Install a new cover gasket and O-ring onto the cover.
  6. Rotate the crankshaft so the oil pump drive flats are vertical. Position the oil pump inner rotor so the mating flats are in the same position as the crankshaft drive flats.
  7. Install the front cover making sure the pump is correctly engaged on the crankshaft, or severe damage may result.
  8. Install the chain case cover screws and snug the two bottom screws and the top center screw. Ensure the cover is seated to the block then tighten all screws to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  9. Install the oil seal and the crankshaft damper.
  10. Install the tensioner pulley bracket and the cam sensor.
  11. Install the air conditioning compressor to the mounting bracket.
  12. Install the accessory drive belt.
  13. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Tighten the oil pan drain plug and install a new oil filter.
  14. Install the oil pump pick-up tube and oil pan. Install the transaxle inspection cover, if removed.
  15. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil to the proper level. Install a new oil filter.
  16. Install radiator assembly. Check condition of radiator hoses. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
  17. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Run engine and check for leaks. Verify correct oil pressure with a gauge.

Timing chain


I'll assume you are going to replace the entire set (sprockets, guides, etc.) which I got from O'Reilly for $79.

First, set engine to #1 TDC.
Remove valve cover, fan shroud, fan, drive belt, water pump, 4 10mm bolts from bottom front of head, and 3 10mm bolts from front of oil pan. Remove lower front shield to remove oil pump. remove oil pump/distributor drive shaft, noting the orientation of the drive shaft.
Remove harmonic balance using correct puller (can be rented from local auto parts store). Remove P/S pump and A/C compressor if necessary. Remove timing cover.

IMPORTANT: Before removing oil thrower and distributor drive gear, note direction of oil thrower.
Remove oil thrower and distributor drive gear.
Remove chain guides, tensioner, chain, and finally both sprockets.
The new crank sprocket can only be installed one way, by aligning groove with keyway. The new cam sprocket will have 3 guide holes on the mounting flange, and you will need to align the knock pin with hole #2. Both sprockets should have a small dot (timing mark) on the right side of the sprocket when viewed from the front.
To install new chain, inspect chain to find the two brightly colored gold links. These two links must align with the timing marks on the sprockets. Assemble and install chain tensioner.

!!! IMPORTANT: Be sure to use new gasket when installing tensioner. Tensioner is oil pressure fed and a leaking gasket could allow chain slack, leading to premature wear or break.
Install chain guides, being sure not to let tensioner pop out.

!!! IMPORTANT: The tensioner must be fully compressed. To accomplish this, loosen the 8mm bolts in the passenger side guide (the shorter one). Compress the tensioner, adjust guide to remove slack, and tighten the two 8mm bolts.
Double check that everything is still lined up properly, and make corrections as necessary.
Install distributor drive gear and oil thrower.

!!! IMPORTANT: Ensure oil thrower is installed facing away from the distributor gear. If not, it could get caught in the distributor gear and destroy the two gears or cause engine lockup.

Before installing timing cover, inspect coolant and oil passages. If there is excessive buildup, a good system cleaner is recommended. Replace timing cover gaskets to prevent oil leakage. The best way to reinstall the timing cover is to remove the oil pan, install the timing cover, and reinstall the oil pan (replacing the pan gasket). If you don't want to do that, simply grease the top and bottom of the timing cover and lightly tap it into place with a rubber mallet. This is to prevent damage to the oil pan and head gaskets.
To install the distributor drive shaft, dab some grease on the top side of the gear to hold it in place, and line it up with the distributor. If you are having trouble lining up the shaft, pull it out and look at it from the top, and you will see that the flange is offset. At #1 TDC, the offset will be towards the front.
Install oil pump, being sure to use new gasket.

!!! IMPORTANT: Failure to replace oil pump gasket could lead to inadequate oil pressure, which will cause severe engine damage.

The remainder of the installation is a reverse of removal, using new gaskets where necessary. Before installing your valve cover is a good time to check your rocker arm clearances. This is also a good time to replace your drivebelt, and any other maintenance items as necessary.
