The mass air flow sensor is in the ducting to the throttle body. the o2 sensors are on the exhaust pipe. looks very much like a spark plug with a wire extended from itself. the maf will also have wiring associated with it. replacement of 02 sensor requires a special wrench. disconnect battery for a few minutes to clear all previous codes. replace parts and then reconnect the battery. allow computer to relearn in a short trip.

SOURCE: location of the bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor on a 2001 ford escape

B1 means the sensor is located on the same bank of the engine that has the #1 cylinder. B2 is located on the opposite bank.
S1 means the sensor is located BEFORE the catalytic converter
S2 means the sensor is located AFTER the catalytic converter

You didn't say which engine you have, so I've included the diagrams of both 4 cyl and 6 cyl so you can see the banks

SOURCE: 2000 ford escort ZX2 with P0171 trouble code.

I am working on the same problem. This 2000 ZX2 was idling rough and throwing a p171 code (bank 1 too lean). I hooked up a scanner to the OBDII port and you could see the O2 sensor at 0 or very low voltage and not switching and the fuel compensation maxed out which indicates a lean condition. Using a flammable Carb cleaner and the engine running I sprayed around the vacuum hoses until the idle picked up. I found a rubber elbow that connects to the bottom of the intake maniflold and feeds vacuum to the PCV valve. Replacing the the elbow with a suitable replacment from the auto part misc parts cards display had it running smoothly and the O2 sensor switching properly. Since this was happening at idle it was not the fuel filter which can cause a lean condition in upper rpms. It is not the MAF or the O2 sensor since it switches when not at idle. Also check the smaller vacuum lines that go to the evap control from the intake vacuum ports (back of manifold just below the throttlebody, most will be cracking if your car is anything like mine. I have also seen this problem with a bad PCV valve.

2013 Ford Escort P0171 Stalls when I come to a stop. Replaced up stream O2 sensor

If the code set at idle, positive fuel trim, check for vacuum leak and check maf system. Some ford makes and models, with everything off, disconnect the maf sensor, where applicable. Take the vehicle for a spin, if it is better, check the maf system. My US database didn't show escort in this model year. Is this vehicle sold in the US?

Trouble code 172 ford escort

system to rich(bank 1). Clean the MAF with QD electronics cleaner and see if it fixes the problem. Otherwise, you might need to replace the 1st o2 sensor and/or the maf. bank 1 is the bank where #1 cylinder is. also check all vacuum lines. if cleaning maf sensor does not help, then replace front 02 sensor on bank 1. the one before converter.

Where is the upsteam O2 sensor located on a 2000 ford escort

Find the catalytic converter in the exhaust system, follow it toward the engine and the upstream o2 sensor will be in the exhaust pipe or manifold. This is assuming it has a 4cylinder. If it's a 6 cylinder you will have to determine which bank (side) o2 sensor needs to be replaced.

I got error code for bad o2 sensor. and MAF sensor

you're looking at this the wrong way, i suspect you have an engine problem, do a compression and leak down test, also look for a vacuum leak after the maf sensor

2001 ford escort 4 dorr. 2.0 sohc engine

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where theMaf Sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a downstream vacuum leak of the MAF sensor. or a leaking intake manifold gasket or loose vacuum hose on the engine.
Possible solutions include:
  • In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
  • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
  • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure
