How many labor hours does it take to swap out motors in an 01 cadillac dts already have motor just want to know how many hours actual labor

Seems as if you do. There service calls for 6.9 hours of labor which means it's a rather large job. Not only does the dash need to be disassembled, but the A/C system will need evacuated as well. If you do not have much experience in this type of service, I would highly recommend you take the vehicle to a repair facility.

1. Remove the HVAC module. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement .

2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
3. Remove the evaporator tube from the thermal expansion valve. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Hose Assembly Replacement .
4. Remove the heater hoses from the heater core. Refer to Heater Hoses Replacement .
5. Remove the brake pedal bracket assembly. Refer to Brake Pedal Assembly Replacement .
6. Pull back and reposition the carpet.
7. Remove the lower instrument panel (I/P) support brace. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Support Bracket Replacement .
8. Reposition the auxiliary air distribution duct. Refer to Auxiliary Air Distributor Duct Replacement .
9. Remove the instrument panel carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement .
10. Disconnect the HVAC module assembly electrical connectors.

Actually, by your very description of the symptoms the car IS overheating. The temperature gauge should NEVER be "in the red" as this is too hot for the engine. The "puttering" you describe is the engine laboring to stay running in the overheated condition. This is shortening engine life dramatically. It sounds like you may have a thermostat that is not opening completely, or a cooling fan that is not operating correctly. If a fan problem it could be either the fan motor itself or the coolant temperature sensor that turns the fan on. It is imperative that you get this looked at IMMEDIATELY. The engine on your Cadillac has aluminum heads and they are easily warped or cracked by heat. A third problem you could have is a low coolant level. Never trust the sensors in the overflow bottles. If the coolant in the reservoir gets depleted, then the system develops air pockets which cause overheating and erratic gauge operation. If this is your problem, topping off the reservoir and purging the air in the system should clear things up. Be advised, however, you should also be on the lookout for system leaks if this occurs.

Actually no but I already found a solution.After going thru the whole interior I found a latch thru the rear seat inside the trunk on the top part of the speaker mount.

parts and labor approx $4k. and you will want to get new motor mounts installed also whenever replacing and engine.

Simply call the place that will do the work and ask for an estimate. They have books that will tell them how much time it takes to do every procedure, and they simply take this time and multiply it by their hourly rate. You should be able to hold them to this figure, unless another problem is encountered, and then they should contact you and ask if you want it repaired also and for how much or if you just want the original problem repaired.

Almost all dealerships use this method, although most dealerships have a high hourly rate, but you will get a good job and a warranty on parts and labor, so the choice is yours. If you find a good mechanic, keep him. If not get a quote from a dealer and if this is too high and you don't want to tackle the job yourself, get some reccomendations on who in your area is known to be a good mechanic and again, ask for a quote and make them stick to it.
