GM products with digital climate control used a temopature sensor module which is located under the hood in the heater box. They are known to fail. It souns like your issue lies there. It is sort of triangular in shape and has a single electrical plug with 7 or so wires in it. (I ran a slvage yard for years and sold a ton of these!) There are a series of #'s like a factory I.D./part # that I used to identify and interchange with. I don't know if there has been a generic replacement released over the years. Hope this helps!
