Sounds like the main relay is bad. I hate to say it but I think that relay is incorporated in the master switch on that year /model.

SOURCE: driver window will roll down but the passenger and rear wont

The first thing that I would do is check for electricty at the motors them sel and work your way back.If there is elec. at the window motor it's self susspect a motor problem.Remove the motor to see if it spins (but it dosen't me its good it could be week)next check for binding in the window mecanism.

SOURCE: passenger side power window wont roll up

The problem may be in the wiring which if you pull up the carpet on the front passenger side by removing the door floor trim and lifting the carpet you will see the wiring underneath. Probably laying in water or has been. Look for splices in the wiring which will have corroded. Repair the wiring then check the fuse.
Another problem may be in the motor found inside the door. The brushes may have worn out. If so you need to replace the motor. Ususally the drivers side will fail first since it is the most used.

This means you need to head to the junk yard and replace the unit that controlls all the windows from the drivers seat. Very simple fix. Good luck

Hello i just got my 2001 VW Passat and all 4 windows dont work. Wont go up or down. When press the button to open/close you can hear the Window Motor clicking. Some clicking noise. its not stock i take...

If the motors are clicking then they get powered but their movement is blocked. Try to rotate them manually - if you can't then the mechanisms have been seized by rust, you will need to dismantle them and clean them thoroughly. If you can rotate them then the motors have been burned up and the previous owner didn't bother to replace them - you will have to replace them all.

Hello i am looking to buy a 1999 vw passat but the driver window does not roll down. would this be expensive to fix? please advise..

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. If they are power, it could be a bad switch or a defective wire, or bad connection. If they are manual, it is probably the window regulator. This controls the window going up and down. None the less, you will need to take off the panel to get to the window. If it is manual, it shouldn't cost much. If it is automatic, the price can rise steady. It all depends on what is wrong.

Windows wont roll up and down and hazard continues to click even when not on.

These are two separate issues. The most common cause of the clicking is the hazard switch located above the radio.Replacing this generally takes care of that issue occassionally it is a malfunction in the turn signal switch but most likely the hazard switch. If all windows are affected would check fuses first. If the windows roll down from the corresponding switches example rf allows rf to roll down. If not suspect an electrical issue such as fuse or relay. If they do roll down from the switches on the doors but not the drivers door possible a master switch issue.Drivers door contains a master switch that controls all windows.Do the windows work at all?
