U will need to check to see if cable is properly adjusted and tight at pedal otherwise get a new cable at nearest parts store such as auto zone or O'Reilly

SOURCE: I HAD 2004 PONTIAC GRAND

Hi!!
Check the vacuum hoses going into the intake manifold, there is an elbow connection that tends to come unplugged, check for cracked lines also. this is very important.
Once sure vacuum hoses are OK, remove the the Intake Air Control (IAC) solenoid, located on the intake manifold by the TPS. Use a rag wet with carb cleaner to wipe it clean, retract it using a back and forth twisting motion, then wrap the rag on a pen or pencil and clean the solenoid's housing, make sure to clean the far end of the housing were the solenoid's plunger seats. DO NOT APPLY CARB CLEANER STRAIGHT TO THE SOLENOID OR THE HOUSING.
Check MAF sensor, remove the plastic duct and look into the intake manifold, you'll see a screen covering the entrance, wipe it clean the same way you did the IAC solenoid. If you have not recently changed the air filter, replace it.
Good Luck and keep me posted!!

Have to press gas pedal to get engine to turn over

Pedal pressing has nothing to do with it. You problably have a bad starter or battery. Check your connections too.

2004 grand am se v6 sometimes wont start unless gas pedal is pushed

when you say -turn over do you mean firing-turning over to me means the starter motor is cranking or turning over-firing is when combustion happens in the cylinders-as far as the cranking continuing-try some wd40 in the ignition switch-it may be hanging up-Denny

My 2004 pontiac montana wont start, need help ASAP!

your shift cable is stretched or broke. try starting in nutral. if this doesn't work you need to adjust or replace shift cable. this is a very easy fix but it should start in neutral.

Does it start soetimes? Has it been down all this time? Is it got enough gas? the gauge can be wrong. fuel pumps and gauges are failing alot as the tequies used to steal gas are breking things that peaple don't think about. Peaple steal gas to get to the job they haven't gotton yet. It's getting bad out there It was only once in a while I found this problem but now it's everyday. One in 5 no starts are out of gas and most of the peaple said they keep the tank full ( thier thief knows you and gets plenty, then next htings you know he bends the fuel gauge sender and takes all you gas or you don't but more as you think you have some and you don't.
