Most likely a bad ignition module in that era, need a 5.5mm thin wall socket to replace it. Can also be Pick-up in Distributor going bad.

When cold starts but dies.to start, peddle to floor, rev a minute then it idles but at times dies when accelerating from a stop. Raw gas smell present and puff of blue smoke when it starts.

have you checked the cylinder compressions as backfire and blue smoke can be a symptom of low compression , either rings or valve seats but would need a dropdown test to be sure

2001 Chevy impala started the night before morning it started running rough died it would ed start fuel pump ok try starting it Nothing but smell gas what could be wrong?

if your smelling gas then it sounds like an ignition problem or timing, could be something in the distributor, coil, or plugs worn out. if this has the corvette motor in it with the distributor mounted at the front of the motor behind the water pump they are known for distributor problems.

91 geo tracker died while driving cant get it started again

when you crank it, do you smell fuel? if you do, you're getting fuel so try replacing the distributer cap and even the plugs. if no gas smell, the fuel filter needs changing or the fuel pump is bad.

Car smells like gas and is hard to start

My Pontiac G5 Gt coupe did the same thing. There was a recall on the gas line and it was replaced.

Just changed water pump which had frozen, now when running it will die during acceleration but will start back up. Also, the oil and exhaust smell like gas.

Clarify what U mean by die? The gas smell is probably you need a tune up, or your fuel injectors could be at fault.

89 cutlass, dies after 10 min.s starts up again then dies seconds later. Its not ignition control module. later, won't start at all...just cranks and NO fumes of gas at all, not even when smelling finger...

It is always best to start with the most simple things first. I suppose it has plenty of gas in it? It does sound like it is something as simple as a fuel filter, or Also is that 1989 could be the fuel injectors or the Fuel Injector Pressure regulator. ? It could be the fuel pump, especially if you aren't smelling any gas. It does seem like you are not getting any gas. I would start there. Good luck to you. I had some photos from Auto Zone, they have an excellent how to guides. www.autozone.com

I started it up one day I went in to let it warm up came back out and it had died on me.Now it turns over but won't start seems like it might not be getting gas wwhat do you think?

first of all when you crank the truck have someone to smell under the hood to see if you smell gas if you don't smell gas then check the fuel pump relay before you do this get a can of starter fluid and spray it in the throttle body and if it starts then the relay is good then the fuel pump is bad
