Depends on the car. Mechanical fuel pumps were used on most cars up in to the 1980's. Along about the mid-80's everyone began using electric pumps, most are now inside the gas tank.
Be blessed.

My durango is air locked how do I fix it

if it only has a manual fuel pump on it, add an electric fuel pump back close to the tank. Chrysler products are well known for this "vapor lock". An electric fuel pump in the line will force fuel into your system at the engine end and forcing the air past the vent and no more problem. Be sure to add a filter between the tank and new pump or you'll void the pump warranty.

2003 escape 2.0l no start. Will run with starter fluid. No power at fuel pump.

There are two relays you need to check out, also, check the fuses. Fords also, usually, have an inertia switch you can check. Your owners manual should give you the location.

Does the 4m40 engine has manual fuel pump or electronic fuel pump

In general, fuel-injected engines (including those with throttle-body injectors) have electric fuel pumps and carburetor fuel systems use mechanical fuel pumps or are gravity fed (in the case of small engines found on yard equipment).

Lost electrical power to fuel pump

There are many reasons why fuel pumps have no power, most (in tank) fuel pumps fail due to low fuel inside of tank.

These fuel pumps turn at an alarming rate which in turn causes an alarming amount of heat. This heat is then dissipated by the fuel inside of the tank itself. If the driver/operator allows to run the fuel very low and continue to do so, this will over time allow for the fuel pump to overheat due to the ONLY source used to cool the fuel pump is the fuel inside of the fuel tank itself. Electrically, view the operator's manual or similar source to locate fuel pump fuse and/or relay of which will open the electrical path when the fuel pump overheats.
This should be a pretty good starting point to locate/isolate electrical issue you may be experiencing.

Good Hunting to you & hope this gets you back on the road soon!

I have no power to the fuel pump,

poss causes are the ignition electrical switch on the outside of the column, not the key but the switch the key operates through a linkage rod, the other issue is the fuel pump relay under the hood in the power distribution box could be defective, also was the connector at the fuel pump on the fuel tank clean with no corrosion? If u don't understand how to run electrical tests on these parts then this is better left to a shop who has the test e equipment and knowledge of the system and workshop manuals.
