Since there really isn't much information to work with, I'll make some guesses:
Automatic transmission: Transmission out of fluid or gone bad.
Stick shift: Clutch gone

I drive a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo, 2.2L, 4 Cylinder engine. Sometimes when I'm driving the car slips out of gear! I press on the excellorator and all it does is revs.

My 2000 did this just before the transmission went out completely. It's been some time, and I've come to the conclusion that the ABS pump puts pressure against the transmission when the computer fails on it (this pump). My new transmission was laggy/slippy until I pulled the ABS fuse just to check this theory, and viola! Torque I hadn't felt in 4 years. If your ABS light is on, and has been on for some time, this may be the case. I would take it to the nearest shop and have the ABS pump checked.

Rear axel very slight movment up down in and out is this normal or are the bearings shot no noise when driving

There is some normal movement upand down out towards the wheel because the axle slids in and out of the bearing. The bearing is not a press fit type. The in and out movement is normal because the axle is held in by a C clip at the carrier assembly.

Sounds like your thinking in the right area. Up on stands or hoist look for ripped boot, and/or movement at joint.
