Hi if the car is automatic iv t could be the park switch. Many auto's need to be in park to remove the key. If not the ignition switch has fallen apart inside. Good luck.

I removed the battery and now the car won't start

'I disconnected the car battery/changed the car battery and now my car won't start'

Another common question on Fixya.
You've done nothing wrong. It's simply that the immobiliser doesn't recognise the key.

Put the key into the ignition. Turn the ignition on. Press the LOCK button twice on your remote. Wait 1 minute.

Turn the ignition off and press the UNLOCK button on the remote a couple of times. This will disarm the immobiliser.

The key should be recognised and your vehicle will start.

How can I get my key stuck out of the ignition?

sometimes if the steering wheel is turned all the way to one side it puts pressure on the ignition key switch and won`t allow the key to turn all the way back to remove. another thing could be if the key switch tumblers/key are worn will cause this as well. the one thing to try is to move the steering wheel a little back and forth while continuing to turn the key back and forth it may release. if not then you will have to take it a shop to have it removed.

Stuck eldorado key in DTS ignition now car won't start

Make sure your steering wheel isn't locked. Sometimes a key won't turn until you jiggle the wheel while trying to turn the key.

I have a 1998 cadillac deville that when I start it, It runs fine, but when I turn it off and try to restart it, It won't start, says starting dissabled, remove key, but if you let it set for awhile it...

If you are getting a starting disabled message, it's an indication that your security system is rejecting your ignition key. Your car is equipped with the VATS security system which requires a key with a resistor attached (small chip). Over time the sensor inside the cylinder will not recognize the key. Usually a new key will fix the problem. In more serious cases, it's the cylinder itself that's bad and needs replacement.

My steering wheel is stuck and when I put my key in it won't turn either. It starts to turn but won't go all the way

hi,it maybe a good idea to remove the steering collum covers to visually inspect it can be the ignition bolt just being loose or the steering lock or ignition it self is on its way out.
