Hi Chrissy Hawkins, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
Can you check if it is getting power with a test meter.Look at the bulb and see if the filament is there.

Check the ground wire to make sure it's not corroded or broken

check the socket and bulb, but that's an obvious thing to do first ; switch it from left to right and see if they work on the opposite side

what if it does work when switched

  • Earl DaSquirrel

then you know that socket or bulb is the problem, and not a problem with the wiring

  • Chrissy Hawkins

meant to say if it does work .... but that would mean its the wire itself going from ground to socket right

correct, we're trying to rule out the bulb or socket this way... ted is going with the same reasoning but you don't have to go out and buy a new one if it will be working on the opposite side

Hi Chrissy:
I'd start be replacing the tail light.
If the new one doesn't work then you start trouble shooting.
Let me know if you need more help.

Hi Chrissy: Cool.... If you checked the ground and it is getting voltage (from the positive contact), then the light should work. If it doesn't, it can only be a bad bulb, or a bad contact. Souns like you've got it about solved. Hi Earl... Good to see you out there!

check voltage from brake switch to signal light switch, signal goes from brake pedal to signal switch then to taillights, i suspect the problem is in that area

99 Chevy S10 Pickup's Tail Lights Won't Turn Off

Obviously you have a short somehow power is bleading over to this circuit. You may be forced to do some hard debuging (i.e wiring diagram, test light isolate the problem on the circuit).

If I were taking a guess I would try the following:
1) Remove the fuse for the taillight
2) If the light goes out I would start looking at the dashboard light switch
3) If the light does not go out then I would start looking toward the rear end of the truck wires that are scouffed, trailer light connections ect.

Hope this gives you a start, needless to say a short can take forever to find.

My third brake light dosen't work on my chevy s10 94'

I had a similar problem with my 1994 S-10 LS extended cab. Both tail brake lights worked fine. I removed the 3rd brake light cover and tested for voltage at the steel center of the two rivets and found the positive (driver side) negative (passenger side) were good. I checked the two metal strips that send power to bulbs and found the positive side was open. Seems the flared side of the rivet was not making contact with the metal strip. I bucked the rivet with a punch and hammer and it took care of the problem.

WHAT YOU MIGHT CHECK IS THE FUSE FOR TAILLIGHTS, OR DASH LIGHTS. THEY WORK OFF THE SAME FUSE. IF THE FUSE IS BLOWN THE HEADLIGHTS WORK BUT NO TAIL OR DASH LIGHTS

Chevy k10 headlight/taillight problem

the fuses are located on the left side of the drivers foot well. these trucks have problems with rot and when they start to fall apart the beds move around and short out the taillights and youll usually lose the dash lights with the tails but the headlights are separate.
