Normal as it is the same as pulling the choke on
once the ecm has run all the checks and the sensors have registered correctly then the ecm brings the rpm,s back to normal.
If it lasts for a longer period then run the fault codes but 30 seconds is about average

What is so strange is NO CHECK ENGINE light. I am going to check operation of iac removed from the tb. I have replaced it with a used iac but same issue. Also it does it every time I start it, cold or hot. I thoroughly cleaned the tb and the air passages. It idles at 2k for a good 45 sec to a minute the drops to 750 and runs fine Till I start it then same..Thanks for the tips.

there will be no check engine light as there is no fault to report. the engine will rev high on start up because the ECM program is set to do that until all the data from the sensors is determined at which point the ECM reverts the rpms to a preset idle status

SOURCE: 1989 honda prelude enigne idles high then low irratic

I had the same problem on a Rover. There was a leak in inlet manifold that was caussing the problem.
To verify, spray some sealant to temporarily seal the inlet manifold .and the eratic idling should disappear for some time.
If it does, you know there is leak in inlet manifold which you can take of and refit with a new gasket.

SOURCE: trying to set the timing on 94 honda passport v6

piston one should be top dead you can do it by putting a straw in the #1 spark plug hole then rotate crank till it reaches highest point.. thats top dead center ... match the cams to the marks... if you took out the distriubutor and did not mark anything then you have to try different combos advancing and retarding while tryin to start .basically get the crank and cams aligned then play with dist timing...

replace throttle body gasket. first check to see if carbon has built up around the throttle valves in throttle body if so remove and clean it with throttle body cleaner.and a old tooth brush. besure to remove all electrical components or any thing that plastic or rubber the cleaner will destroy it.

1999 Honda passport won't idle at less than 1000rpm. Gas gauge inoperable

I doubt the two problems are connected.
The high idle could be a vac leak or a sticky idle speed control valve.

Where is the shift solenoid located in the transmission on a 94 Honda passport ex with a v6

Not familar with your exact transmission, but most have more than one shift solenoid. These are usually easy to access once trans bottom pan is removed.

Hi,
You're kidding right?

Is the door open or closed when the idle issue occurs?

This is the same as an Isuzu Rodeo. I'd go look on the Honda/Isuzu online forums for an answer.

2001 Honda Passport, Engine light was on. Also acts like it wants to stop the first time I start it each day and has stopped on me a few times before I put in drive or reverse. EGR valve, ports, and...

Sorry for the delay, having my shoulder rebuilt. The gaskets between the upper &lower plenum are a steel/plastic assembly, known to crack and cause a vacuum leak. This will cause a hard start cold and a higher than normal idle when warm.Usually by the time you notice these things the check engine light is on, indicating the idle speed is out of range. The intake can be separated, just enough,to replace the gaskets without removing fuel lines etc.find an experienced Isuzu or Honda technician..It should be about 1.5-2 hour job

94 honda del sol's engine revs up and down

I know exactly what you are talking about, it will go high to about 2 to 4k rpms, then back down to 1k in intervals of about 3 seconds. It is either the idle air position sensor, or the throttle body position sensor, hondas are famous for it. The parts are cheap, about $20-$30, and fairly easy to install when you find it. I suggest a Haynes Manual for installation to make it a lot easier if you don't know where it is. Good luck, hope all goes well.
