Question about Nissan Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have an 85' Nissan 720 4Dr, it has been running great until today. When I down shift it dies, and is very hard to restart. Any ideas on what the problem could be or where to start.

Sounds like the idle solenoid in the carb has failed , not available seperately. Probably going to be expensive

Change the Cam Position Sensor.. It done the same thing on mine. The sensor runs about
40. to 60.00 at most parts stores Your gonna have to take off the upper intake or plenum to
get access to it. Top of the engine right side, you'll see it

It sounds like you may have gotten a Tank of Contaminated Fuel. Try to Run a Can of B12 Chemtool through the Fuel Tank and see if it will not Clear up. You can get the B12 Chemtool at Wal-Mart in the Automotive Section or at Your Local Autoi Parts Store.

SOURCE: Trans shifts very hard after 5 minutes of stop and go traffic

A reason for hard shifting could be a problem with many things with various degrees of seriousness. It could be your ATF( automatic transmission fluid) is low or broken down and old. This would cause the hardness and the reason for stop and go traffic effecting it. Another possibility is your transmission is just shot, and the timing gears inside are worn and not properly shifting at the correct RPM causing a **** during shifting.

Some possibilties, not all!

SOURCE: 1970 Chevy 350 in C30 truck dies when warm

You need to find oput what you loose when the truck shuts off, all you need is Air, Fuel , and spark to run one of the three are droppuig out when it stalls and will not run. Chech the carb for gas it sounds like you have a weak fuel pump.

Check for vacuum leaks on all hoses underhood. Make sure all intake componets are intact and they are tight.

Is the check engine light on? If so, get to an auto parts store, they should pull the codes for free.

Sounds almost like a bad throttle position sensor. The computer uses the TPS to help know when to shift on this car if I remember right, and if the TPS is bad, it can cause that jerking. Along with the car dying when slowing down after driving. But check everything else out first. Including electrical connections.

I'd check for trouble codes if you haven't already. Sometimes emissions related things like egr (exhaust gas recirculation valves, pcv (positive crankcase ventilation or even heat riser valves can become faulty and cause problems when the vehicle reaches peak operating temperatures. check for dtc codes and let me know if you come up with any
