I put it in the comments of another answer, but you already ruled out the switch...

so check those ground contact points for that headlight circuit, usually around the radiator support area... remove bolt, clean/wire brush the contact points of that ground wire, re-attach bolt

Done all that first thing. I even ran new ground wires and still.

Sounds like a bad switch. I had several wear out mostly on Chrysler vehicles even on a new vehicle

Do you have sufficient power to the vehicle? Do the lights work and radio? If not your battery is low, if yes than your starter solenoid may have failed. Since there is absolutely nothing, I take it you hear no cranking or igniting. correct?

Sounds pretty "cut-and-dry" to me. You need to charge or replace the dead battery, and make sure your battery cables are CLEAN AND TIGHT and then check to make sure your alternator is charging correctly.

Why does my 1997 dodge dakota's headlights flicker on and off.

my 99 dakota has gone thru 3 switches. I have found that if they do it now ---i take off the instrument guard ---no screws ---
unscrew the headlamp switch ----and spray all movable parts with wd-40 it fixes it for about 3 months. my theory is the switch gets wet from AC condensation and builds up a film that the switch arm just rides on. hope this helps.
