If this is a power steering unit, what ever the manufacturer deems correct, in most cases auto trans fluid? If the existing fluid is a nice cherry red color, then auto trans fluid will be ok.
Any other color refer to the manufacturers recommendation.
If it is a manual steering box (unlikely) EP90 is usually correct. Try a search on the net or ring your friendly Nissan service place.

I just replaced the springs in my 94 chev silverado and now I have no power steering, fluid boils and over heats really quickly, replaced pump and hoses, is it possible the steering box could have a b

if it was no problem before the spring change then go back to what you did with the suspension as it is possible that you are overloading the pump. Other than that for the oil to heat up and boil there has to be energy going into the oil Pump spinning under pressure with no release of the oil. Oil pumps have no pressure unless the steering valves are up set where they close off and move the steering until you stop moving the wheel . At this point the valves open and release the pressure back to the reservoir

Can gear box oil be used in place of power steering oil?

Now you can't use gearbox in in power steering system this will block valves and the grade is very different .You can use automatic transmition oil , but it's recommended that you see if it's not hydronic oil as some makes like audio use special hydronic oil

Steering gear oil leak

I don't see how that could happen, without being in an accident

Of coarse,as soon as the rack leaks, you replace it

On a frame mounted steering box just the bottom seal leaks
& you have to remove & rebuild

If you have a damaged steering rack you have other possible
suspension damage

I would go to an alignment only shop, not some chain store
in the mall

Steering fluid leak; oil covering steering gear box

if the leak is coming from the steering box there are usually only 3 places it can come from;most common place is the pitman shaft seal, which can be replaced.this is were the pitman arm of the steering connects to the steering box.another place is the steering box input shaft seal, this is were the steering colume connects to the steering box, which can be replace.the last place is the power steering hoses were they connect to the steering box.there are seals that seal the lines when screwed into the box which can also be replaced.so first you need to see exactly were the leak is coming from.rare occasions the steering box is porous which means the box will need replacing.a car of this age should have shown up long ago.you will have to clean the box off at the car wash then run the car and turn the steering wheel all the way to one side, this will build up pressure in the system to show up the leak quicker.
