If it also dies in drive it is a TCC (torque converter control/lockup) valve that is stuck or the TCC solenoid. If it drives forward, then it is internal problems. Planetary gears/sun gears that have broken.

Check at the transmisiion where the link hooks up chances are it has come loose or stripped any vehicle will not start if the safety nuetral switch is in any position other than park or nuetral you may be able to move it manuallly with your hand to place it into any of these gears.

Escape 2001 will not start, died when i came to a stop.

try the alternator. go to auto zone and have a technician come out and run a diagnostic on power system.

I have a ford escape 2001 v6,water was fulled in the tank

if it runs without overheating issues but doesn't move forward or reverse....check your transmision fluid level...if its too low the vehicle won't move but the engine will run just fine.
