Question about Geo Cars & Trucks
1.6 liter motor in Geo tracker timing belt is trying to come off and is cutting into the timing cover, think I need to replace both timing gears. I did put a new tensioner on this motor
Great symtoms. seen them all. on this engine.
the bottom crank cog, (gear) loves to fail on this car.
the cars with A/T ,trans, the last mechanic failed to set
the bolt to 94ft/lbs, and now its loose, and eats the cog center
and crank snout up. (there is a TSB covering this)
1: bad belt, (strands in side snapped) or old belt or put backwards from last time run.
2: cogs not aligned.
3: head locking pins missing, again, last mech put head on and lost
both corner head pins, now heat id canted. seen that too..
4: idler bad.
5: idle under side, last mech failed to index the lever pin,
all 11 ways are here,
hit home and see how to do both engines correctly
the 8v and 16v are done differently.
the snout killed page is here.

There should be a round sleeve that fits on the crank pulley once the timing belt is installed. It looks like a big metal washer. If all the other pulleys are ok and nothing out of line it should not walk off.
