Why does my 1999 Ford Expedition eating starters after replacing valve cover, removed cruise control box but it is back exactly the same?

Had to replace a bad valve cover on my 1999 Ford Expedition 5.4 triton, when I started it about minute after heard a load noise as if metal on metal for about 10 seconds then it stopped let the car continue to run for about 10 min. to make sure cover was no longer leaking. Turned it of and tried to restart it and just got a clicking noise, assumed the starter had gone out. Next day uninstalled starter put a re manufactured starter on started just fine about 20 30 seconds after running same afull noise then it stopped turn car off tried to restart and could hear starter spinning but bendix not ingaging pulled new start return it parts store for new starter not re manufactured installed it started it same thing crazy noise after running for 30 seconds turn it off now back to the clicking in front and not even trying to start

Its your starter shims. Put shims in , what is happening is your starter gear is remaining engaged even after it starts thus it tears up the starter and the gear. It may take 2-3 shims. When you replaced your first starter did it have shims? I am willing to bet it did. Give it a try and i bet this fixes your problem. Good luck

Even tho it's a ford starter? Asked them for shims at parts store, they said they don't carry them for ford because they all are the same. Shims they carried where for chevy.

That should be ok. It may take 1-3 shims. Tell me if that fixes your problem.

Damaged flywheel, too much voltage blowing solonoids, starter not seated correctly could be missing a shim

Testimonial: "Thanks for info don't think its the fly wheel only because I think the starter is trying to re-engage after already started and running how do I know if it needs to be shimmed."

check with the part store ask the clerk, did it come with one. if it is trying to re- engage solonoid is reengaged check connections the only way for a starter to engage is it gets a signal from ignition switch

Replace the flasher module is what I'd do.
Turn signal flasher location Remove panel covering fuse box, next remove the screw holding the heater duct work extension, with the duct work removed you can reach the flasher box cover by reaching up under the dash, remove cover from the box, then remove the flasher, the heavy duty replacement flasher is "taller" and the cover will not fit over it, reverse to close

I need to change the cruise control buttons. Can i remove the steering wheel cover without damaging the air bag or can ford only do it?

I always disconnect the battery to remove air bag.better safe. Steering wheel doesnt have to come off to replace cruise switches.

it's under the battery. see instructions below for removing.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
  1. On some early models with cruise control, you may have to remove the battery.

Also on some models with cruise control, remove the actuator cover and disconnect the wiring harness. Remove the three bolts and then lift out the cruise control actuator. Remove the bracket from beneath the actuator and put aside.
  1. Peel the rubber boot away and remove the nut and disconnect the negative battery cable from the magnetic switch terminal on the starter. Disconnect the electrical connector also located on the magnetic switch.

I cannot not find the charge valve for the AC on the low side in my 1999 ford expedition 5.4 liter V8 only the bleed off valve on the high side is readily viewable. Do you know where it is ?

It's close to the firewall on the passenger side of the engine compartment. You may have to remove the plastic cover that covers the wiring to see it. It is on the black canister (accumulator)
