need to determine if its engine or drive train see if the noise stays when you coast or is it in the transmission could be anything from a gear issue to clutch issue may be a driveline issue noise coming from your wheels you need to find the general location of the noise then you can center the issue

Intermittent backlash in drive train appears to be between transfer case to front diff in 4th gear on bitumen when centre diff lock engaged no more backlash. mainly occurs when at a constant speed ie 70 to...

you shouldnt be in 4 wheel drive on bitumen you will get "bind up" of drive train which can cause damage or excessive freeplay in other components in drive train, inspect freeplay in universal joints on tailshafts, centre bearing and diff backlash specs, some backlash is quite normal, inspect trans/transfer case mounts also.

When i have my truck in 4 wheel drive and turn sharp it kinda bounces but when i have it in 2 it doesn't do that and i just want to know why....

The front differential/drive train have no way to slip in four wheel drive. When you make a tight turn the the front wheels travel a different distance than the rear wheels. on snow, ice, mud, or other off road conditions this isn't a problem because there is less friction for the tires and they just slip a little without much indication they are doing so. On dry pavement they cannot slip and cause the front drive train to bind up and eventually hop.

By the way that is not very good for the 4X4 drive train in general so unless you driving a straight line on dry pavement I wouldn't recommend using the 4x4.

In two wheel drive the front drive drain can move independent of the rear drive train so tight turns are not a problem.

Garage told me problem could be the drive train. What exactly is the drive train?

The drive train is what "Drives" the vehicle literally, and it consists of the engine, the transmission, the drive shaft, (if rear wheel or 4 wheel drive) and the front/rear axle. (Depending on front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, or 4 wheel drive)

It would sound like that garage is basically telling you that you need a new vehicle.

2001 dodge durango 4 wheel drive not working loud knocking

You need to check the cv joints in the front end or the u joints in the front drive shaft. If none of the above then the problem is internal in the front diff.

When the van is driven my front end is making a knocking noise my front driver side wheel shakes and the steering wheel shakes

Front wheel drive cars have CV joints in the axles to permit the wheel to turn for steering. The CV joint is basically a universal joint on steroids. When they ware out it can cause this type of condition.

The drive train needs to be checked. It could be that the transfer case was a root cause and you may have knocked the selector out of posistion to the trani..but then the transfer case has been known to cause a similar condition .. it goes through the transfer case so it is one or the other and with out seeing it we are just guessing .
