Does your fuel pump run? since being fuel injected that is one thing to can spray either to see if it will run on that. if it runs then it points to a fuel problem,,,,,,if it doesn't it then points to electrical problem or see if your security light is flashing since that will also keep it from starting.

Car clicks but wont start

the alternator lamp will not go out until the engine runs..
the alt converts engine horse power to electric power,
no engine, no alt.
so that means the engine will not start, or better it wont crank
subzero C or Subzero F.,, -10F or -10C, vastly different temps.
no crank, then jumper cable crank it with donor car running.
crank now,?
yes , then battery is bad, weak or just discharged.
no, then starter bad, or key line bad.
hot wire starter solenoid. cranks now, is bad key line
if not, bad starter.

did you wiggle the shifter at crank.
did you wiggle key. extra.
did you try crankiing in neutral using fresh start contacts.>... yah.

Solenoid clicks but doesn't turn starter. Tested starter, it's fine. Battery is grounded well. Alternator is still good. Battery brand new. I'm stumped. Help?

The alternator would not come into play until the engine starts.
If the starter works on a test machine, and the battery tests ok, it has to be a connection problem or the engine is stuck.
Can you check voltage at the starter terminals with a meter ?

1995 honda civic won't start even with a jump

Well the battery and alternator would not have anything to do with the engine starting.
You would need to check the ignition system to see if you are getting the correct spark at the plugs when the engine fails to start.

Is it the battery or the alternator

All the battery does is supply power to the starter to crank the engine over. The alternator doesn't start working until after the engine is started. It supplies electrical power to the engine after it has started and also recharges the battery. If the engine is cranking over but not starting it is neither the alternator or the battery. Check for spark and fuel pressure your most likely missing one of these.

Car wont start, seems like battery went dead

If the car doesn't start with a jump you might have a bad alternator. The alternator supplies voltage to the car once the engine is running. If the battery is dead, and the alternator isn't putting out sufficient voltage, the engine cannot run. Then again sometimes a car with an extremely dead or internally shorted battery WON'T start with a jump. Replace the battery and try again.

No crank means dead battery, jump it or get a new battery. If your battery was not dead and you didn't get fuel or it did not start you would get a cranking noise and no starting

2000 ford expidition will not crank over. Battery good

This could be a number of things, however, make sure that the battery is indeed good, as I have had batteries that have tested good, but once I put in a new battery my car would start immediately.

Have the alternator tested, check all connections at the battery, the starter, and the ground which will run to either the chassi (frame) or the engine block, or a bracket that mounts to the engine block.

Also make sure all relays and fuses related to the battery, alternator, starter and ignition are good.

If this has a distributor, make sure the coil wire is secure at both sides. This alone will prevent it from cranking and/or starting. If you have coil pack(s), have it (them) tested; this (these) will also have a modular under them, which cannot be tested, so if you look at it, if it looks white, bubbly and/or melted, it needs replaced.

I will let you know that coil packs and the modular are spendy, so only replace any packs that are deemed (tested) bad.

Last, if this is equipped with a distributor, check the cap and rotor. If the rotor is cracked, is white on the metal end tip, and the metal points in the cap are white, and/or warn (grooved) and have caked material on them, replace them. Check all plug wires for frayed, or melted plastic. If any are in such conditions, replace all, (they come as a set with a coil wire for distributed systems)

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

2002 ford ranger quit running on highway, pulled over tried to start but wouldn't crank over, starter just clicked like a dead battery. thought alternator died then drained battery. today jumped battery,...

If the starter is just clicking, then it is not,but if the starter is kicking the starter drive out,and that is the noise you are hearing then it might be,turn the crank pulley with a socket and ratchet ,clock wise,if it turns then this is not the problem, make sure the ground to the engine is good,if the ground cable has gone bad, this will happen.

Check connections to the battery to make sure they are tight and clean at the contact points.

A fresh battery should start a car if the starter is good.

If you have an ammeter, hook it up to see how much amperage is being drawn when attempting to crank the engine.

If it's above 100 amps or even above 75 amps and does not turn, you have a bad starter.

Sometimes tapping the outside of the starter from below with a ball peen hammer while cranking the engine (need a helper) can start the car if the starter has a bad spot on it.

The alternator comes in to play if the battery is discharged and isn't getting charged by the alternator. The alternator is probably not the problem if you have a new battery and can't turn over the car, at least for that part of the diagnosis.

So, I wouldn't worry about the alternator until the starter and battery are eliminated as being the problem.
