Pulling the plugs out of the cluster and reinserting the usually fixes this problem. Gauges in the cluster runs from different things, so it is a connection problem. But first pull the gauge fuse and reinsert it. Corrosion happens here also.

Try to loosen both battery terminals and the reconnect after 5 mins for resetting the cluster..Nissan love to do it,if the problem persist perfom cluster self diagnostic manually if you can't hook up a diagnostic machine and try it on active test.If everything works then check cluster control relay in the IPDM/ER

The cluster IS the dash/guage assembly. Try slapping on the top of the dash just above the cluster assembly to see if anything starts working again. If not, you may have an internal cluster problem and may need to be replaced

It's probably the step motors that control the gauges !These gauges are controlled by sensors that input info to the engine computer an then sent out on the class 2 serial data bus ! It can't be the sensors or you would have check engine light on an the engine probably would not run very good !

The IPC displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the PCM. The body control module (BCM) receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine coolant temperature. The BCM converts the engine coolant temperature into a percent gage deflection. The IPC receives a message from the BCM via the serial peripheral interface (SPI) indicating the requested gage position. The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to 38°C (100°F) or below if:

The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit. The BCM detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM. The IPC detects a loss of SPI communications with the BCM.

Dash gauges not working. I have lost all the gauges in my dash and the cruise control. Also, the O/D off light stays on. I have lights, but no gauges, they are all bottomed out.

You really should not list your email and phone number online.

Someone will need to get a wiring diagram for the dash and check the circuits with a meter or a test light. By your husband making the instruments work by moving the fuses, it could be a problem with one of the contacts in the fuse box.

I own a 2005 GMC Canyon Five CYL and the cruise control stopped working last niight. You push the button and no cruise. I checked the fuse and it is ok I exchanged with another 10AMP and no change still...

Start with the simple and check the fuses and the Stop lamp switch. Check your brake lights, if they're not working, the cruise won't work either. If they're not working, check the fuse for them, if the fuse is fine, then take it into the dealer, there's been a recall issued on the brake switch, so it should get fixed for free.
Cruise Control Disengaged
The powertrain control module (PCM) disengages the cruise control operation based on the signals from the following switches:

* The stop lamp switch
* The TCC brake/cruise release switch
* The clutch release switch, if equipped
* The cruise control On/Off switch

The TCC brake/cruise release switch and the stop lamp switch are mounted on the brake pedal bracket. When the brake pedal is applied, the normally closed TCC brake/cruise release switch opens and the normally open stop lamp switch closes. The PCM detects a low signal voltage on the TCC brake/cruise release switch signal circuit and a high signal voltage on the stop lamp switch signal circuit. When the clutch pedal is applied, the normally closed clutch release switch opens and the PCM detects zero voltage on the CCP switch signal circuit. The vehicle speed stored in the memory of the PCM will be erased when the cruise control On/Off button is turned OFF, or the ignition switch is turned OFF.

The Cruise Control System will disengage when the PCM detects that a driver override function has been active for approximately 60 seconds .

When the Cruise Control System is disengaged, the PCM sends a class 2 message to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) in order to deactivate the cruise control indicator.

Cruise Control Inhibited
The powertrain control module (PCM) inhibits the cruise control operation when any of the following conditions exist:

* A cruise control related DTC has been set.
* The vehicle speed is less than 40.2 km/h (25 mph) .
* The vehicle is in PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, or 1st gear.
* The engine RPM is too low.
* The engine RPM is too high, with fuel cut off.
* The vehicle speed is too high, with fuel cut off.
* The system voltage is not between 9 volts and 16 volts .
* The Traction Control System (TCS) is active for more than 2 seconds .

Thank you for using Fixya and start with replacing the stop lamp switch. Even though the brake light work, it;s been known for that switch to cause your issue. that's way there was a recall for it.

Cruise control problem

There are 3 places on the Rav4 where fuses can be located and checked. for the cuise control.

The back of the cruise control stacking switch has been know to fail (fall apart) and Toyota issued a TSB with replacement switch.

if it is the fuses then they most likely are related to cruise control system: Stop, Dome, Gauge and Igniton
The interior fuse box
The main engine fuse box (by brake fluid)
Cruise control ECU is under the glovebox.
Cruise control actuator is under hood (by driver side brake fluid/booster)Throttle position sensor (to detect if your foot is on gas pedal)
Cruise control switch on the clutch pedal too (if you have 5spd manual)
Brake lights are the deactivate signal for the cruise control

My temp gauge and fuel gauge stopped working on my 1988 toyota pickup all of a sudden, what do you think?

Check all fuses with a test light. If all good, you will need to diagnose each circuit. Look for the temperature sensor, disconnect connector, ground test light and touch wire. Check to see if the gauge move. If it does, you will need a new sensor. Basically the test is the same for fuel gauge. Disconnect connector at the fuel tank and touch contact and see if gauge move. If it does, the sending more than likely is at fault. Make sure you test each wire as there will be a few. Use proper jack stands anytime you work under a car! Let me know your progress.

Cruise control will not come on.

First I would try and replace the #1 fuse which is a 10 amp fuse that powers the Transmission Controller, Gauges and Autostick. If that fuse is good let me know.
