Yes, but:

  • Not very far.
  • Not very fast.
  • Not very often.
  • Close to the shoulder so you can get out of traffic when it overheats.
  • Carry your cell phone.
  • Put the towing service on speed dial as well as a friend who can come get you when the car overheats.
And consider that one tow may cost more than the repair caused by engine overheat.

I would not run all the time that way also keep your eyes on the heat gauge as it could cause it to over heat especially in hot weather.. Its cheaper to get repaired than a new engine because of heat.

Could car be running hot because of fan not working or radiator or both?

If an engine runs hot due to a partially blocked radiator the electric fan would be running most of the time.

If the fan doesn't run at all it suggests it isn't working and while that alone is likely to cause overheating in many driving scenarios, it is worth noting a car with a well designed cooling system in good order should rarely need the benefit of an electric fan when cruising at light load mid speeds.

It is possible the car has reached an age where it would be worth giving the cooling system a birthday along with repairing the cooling fan - replacing the thermostat and flushing the system thoroughly, including ensuring the radiator core is clear and nothing inhibits the air flow...

How does radiation fan turn

How does a car radiator fan work?
The engine cooling fan is designed to move air through the radiator when the vehicleis at slower speeds or stopped. This air flow removes heat from the coolant created by the engine using the radiator as a conductor. An engine cooling fan is temperature controlled to only run when needed.26 Jan 2017

My 2004 3400 closed system ,runs hot in town unless heater is on. driving up a mountain pass it gets very hot.on a flat highway runs normal. new t state, resivior cap, both fans work no leaks or smell

Radiator fan motor or radiator fan thermostat defective/

Also there is a relay that operates the fan motor

In town not enough air passing through radiator allowing it to over temp.. With heater fan running acts like cooling fan keeping engine cool

Highway driving ample air passing through radiator without fan.

Hill climbing requires cooling fan/

Hope this helps?

Why are my cooling fans for radiator running constantly?

The cooling fans are supposed to run any time the a/c is on in order to keep air flowing across the condenser. Your a/c will not work properly at idle if they quit.

Does both fans need to run on the lincoln continental

one fan is dedicated to the cooling and comes on when it needs to cool the coolant in the radiator, while the other fan is used when you run the air conditioner it helps cool the radiator when you add the workload of cooling the inside of the car. they work seperate from each other, while actually working together.
