On the side of the transmission there will be a filler bolt about half way or a little higher up on the transmission. not sure of the size possibly 1/2 or 5/8" wrench will fit, remove and stick your finger in straight then bend finger until you feel oil this will give you an idea or how much oil is there. if you need to add oil fill until the oil just starts to run out the bottom of the fill hole. you should use 80/90 weight gear oil.

factory calls for 80/90 weight. however you can use autotransmission fluid in the winter for easier shifting, some people use the same all year. this is up to you.

How do you check the transmission fluid in a 1988 dodge dakota pickup with a manual transmission

It has two square plugs on the side if the tranny, fill it till it runs out of the top plug. The bottom one is for draining it.

What type of transmission fluid should be used in a Dodge Dakota, 2wd, auto trans, 6 cyl

Dextron plus 4 should be used. 4 quarts for service, 8.6 quarts for total refill. Some models have to be checked in neutral not park. Read dipstick to know for sure.

My 1996 dodge dakota truck has No power at high RPMs.

You did not mention whether it is automatic or standard transmission. If it is an automatic drain and replace the filter and fluid of the transmission. If that doesn't work then you need to tight the bans. For a standard your clutch could be worn out. Good Luck

1991 dodge dakota 5 speed manual trans .... where do I check the transmission fluid level ?

A plug on the side of the tranny will be the filler, If you have a drain plug in the bottom, If not, you will have two on the side, lower is level, upper is fill. Most manual trannys never get checked or filled, they go for life without the oil being changed. check it out.
