There is tool required by GM dealership to remove head rest.
Tool # J 42372
Pull the seat toward steering wheel. Raise the head rest and insert the tool and take it off.

try putting a small screwdriver into the slots around the pole white ring on the bottom of headreat and pulling it out at same time. I would recommend two people doing this.
