Got to tell you Fords stink for security. First lock the car down, hood trunk and all doors. By hand if you have to. Then open the drivers door with the key, start the car. If it starts. The security is reset. If not. Lock it down and go threw the passenger door and try to start. If it starts, replace the drivers side door latch. If it doesn't. then you have to get it on a scanner (not code reader) to see where the problem is. It could still be door latches, both of them. Or it could be the key, receiver, or wiring.

Try this procedure:
Check the battery like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.
If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.
Check that the battery cable plus post, goes to the starter, Minus post to a good ground, like the engine.
If wiring is ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter.
Problem is most likely the Solenoid's bendix gear or starting relay, Have someone bang on the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging the bendix gear..
Hope this helps.

I understand everything you are saying.. the startter is free...not stuck.. i had a heater plugged into the cigarette lighter and the heater melted its own fuse.. so I unplugged it turned my car off to go into autozone came back out and turned the key and Nothing. All fuses and relays to the car are good. did the heater burn the ignition up?? im stumped

In my RX7, the cigarette lighter is wired directly to the ignition through a 10A fuse, so I wouldn't think it could have burned up the ignition. Did you find that fuse?, if it was a higher fuse it could have damaged the ignition.

Turn key get nothing jump starter and sylenoid just spins

i cant dope out that symptoms.

does it crank or not. be clear there.

no car starts (but my 6sp) if it dont crank.

on A/T cars cranking is a first thing. so does it.?

Solenoids do not spin, the stroke only , it a linear motion.

the Sol. moves the pinion and the main contactor switch only.

my guess is the Starter spins and the crank don\'t spin,

you hear the starter motor spin up, it sings. like bird.

that means the starter /solenoid are bad. (crude)

if the battery is good and or jumper starting off a running car.

It can just be a dirty starter pinion, clean it , repeat.

fixed many for this. i have.

battery cable lugs clean, and good. no green rust.

bad cable usually just make a loud THUNK sound. no spin.

2002 gmc 1500 sierra starter clicks but wont turn over. Have checked fuses, charged battery, tried jump starting all it does is you can here solinoid click but starter wont turn. I did turn heater fan on...

Replace the starter, the solenoid cant engage the starter because it is locked up, hence the extreme voltage drop with the fan when you try to start it with the fan on.

I have a 98 kia sephia an i cant get it to start and the starter is good but when i turn the key the starter doesnt make any noise

What happens when you try to jump start it? If it starts by jump starting then the problem is in your charging system (alternator or battery).

You should also check the fuses and make sure the starter fuse is good.

Car doesnt want to start. all lights come on when in the on position however when I turn it to start nothing happens it dont even try to turn over it just clicks 2002 hyundai xg350

The starting system consists of:
  • starter motor
  • starter switch, part of the ignition switch
  • starter motor solenoid relay switch
  • starter solenoid
  • starter drive
When you turn your key to start your engine, it just clicks, right? If so, more than likely this is due to a bad battery. Even though your battery may appear to be fully charged, it may have a dead cell, or worse. If you get a jump, does the vehicle start? If so, replace your battery.

Possible sources of the problem if the engine does not crank or the relay clicks:
  1. Battery
  2. Starter motor
  3. Starter motor relay
  4. Ignition switch
  5. Damaged fuse
  6. Anti-theft system
  7. Circuitry

The ignition turn and the relay click the starter don't turn

Sounds like the starter mtr is at fault if you lightly tap with a hammer while holding key in the start position it may try to turn over..if it does turn over then starter needs replaced

It only clicks when i turn the key, jump to the

Probably a faulty starter motor, try putting the positive jumper directly on the large terminal on the starter motor and hot wireing from the smaller starter terminal to the positive side of your battery. This completely bypasses the rest of the ignition system and , if the starter still dosn't work , the problem is definitely the starter.
Don't forget to disconnect the battery before removing the starter.
Once the starter is out, check the contacts in the solenoid, this is a common problem or the brushes in the actual motor.

Mercedes vito 110cdi starter motor problems. only when the van

Hi as it starts with a jump start, i would rule out a starter motor problem, i am taking it that what you mean by a jump start is your using a donor battery rather than pushing the van, so possible causes are (1) battery discharging due to a light left on, or the alarm system draining the battery or something similar, (2) alternator not charging the Battery, when you turn the ignition key does the ignition light come on, does it go off when the engine starts?

Car won't start. Acts like the battery is dead, however I can't jump start it.

Well if you cant jump start it thats a good sign that the battery is dead so replace it and you should be fine, and another way you can try is hook the battery up to a charger overnight and if it doesnt hold its charge then you will know if its dead or not.
