You are experiencing premature ABS activation. This can be caused by bad wheel speed sensors.wiring, loose wheelbearings, broken tone wheel on cv shaft etc. You will have to have the data scanned to isolate the affected wheel causing the problem

What could be the problem, when I push my brakes the pedal pushes back and make a loud groaning sound? Jeff

Wheel sensor or ABS module is bad. If you get this at any speed It would be the module. At low or stopping speeds, it could be either. Is the ABS light on.

I push on my brakes and the pedal vibrates back to me.. i think it mite be the abs sensor.(ABS LIGHT IS ON) easy to replace?

If it does this in the slippery weather , then that is a normal brake feed back. The light should not stay on. If it does it may be the sensor. Take it in to your mechanic.

How do you know that a brake booster is bad?

Booster problems are rare but they do go bad sometimes.
A bad booster generally causes the brake pedal to feel hard to push down, and a lot of pressure on the brake pedal is required to make the car stop.
Rarely, a vacuum brake booster will develop a vacuum leak, which can cause engine performance problems, hissing or whistling noise, as well as requiring increased pressure on the brake pedal to stop.

The first test:
With the vehicle parked, turned OFF, and the parking brake set, pump the brake pedal 5 to 6 times. If the pedal gets harder to push after several times, your booster is probably good.

The second test (To make sure):
After the test above, without making any changes, press and hold the brake pedal with light to moderate pressure.
Now with your foot still on the brake pedal, start the vehicle.
If the booster is good, you will feel the pedal go down when the engine starts.

Hope this helps!

My brake pedal is making like a grinding noise when I stop, the ABS light has come on once or twice but goes off again. The brake pads are fine because ive had them changed. Any ideas welcome

Sounds like you have a dirty or bad Speed sensor (ABS). The griding is actually the ABS pump kicking in because it's getting false readings. Clean or replace the sensor(S) in the front wheel hubs. It is recommended to NOT drive the car until this is fixed. (WHY???) Because even though right now they seem to work, one of these times you will go to hit the brakes, they will become rock hard and you will bot be able to push on the pedal, you will have an accident and could be seriously injured.

1996 Buick Park Avenue Ultra making a hissing noise when I press Brake Pedal. Have to Press super hard to stop or slow down.

Sounds like a possible air pocket in the braking system. Do you know how the bleed the brakes? They may need to be bled. Also, if you've added brake fluid recently, and didn't put the cap back on, it could create a suction. Another note is to check the cap to the brake fluid reservoir. It's rare, but, it could be bad.

My abs light comes on occasionally. everything seems fine, then some times I can't stop as well as I should. It seems that the abs is kicking in & it makes ticking noises in brake pedal area. It also...

There's a service bulliten about that problem with rust build-up on the front hubs pushing the sensors out of posistion [ most common on the pickups in areas that use road salt ], it happens mostly at very low speed. The best way to find out the problem is to have the system scanned.

When I push down brakes pedal there is a noise like bump bump. It also feels on the pedal. I already replaced rotors and pads. Master cylinder is OK, and so fluid lines. The car is a Renaut Megane...

Hi.If your brake pedal seems to pulse. This is probubly the abs cutting in due to afaulty wheel speed sensor. Because the sensor is not working correctly. the system thinks theres a skid situation. it thinks one wheel is stopping faster than the other and ABS system automaticly puts brakes on and off many times a second hense the pedal pulsing. The car will need to be pluged into a code reader to find out which sensor is faulty.
The renault`s had aproblem with rear ABS sensor ring. This is the part which is on the roting part of the hub, sometimes they are a segmented ring and they also use a magnetic ring
I hope this will be of some help to you good luck.

Abs comes on at low speed on dry roads 2004 silverado 4x4 right frount only

One of the sensors has gone bad and needs to be replaced, the other thing to that would also do that is the ABS sensor is dirty or needs to be re gaped to the speed ring on the hub. There was a issue bulletin with your Tahoe on the ABS activating under 8 km/h. Good luck and hope this helps, if not clean out the sensor with brake parts cleaner and check the wire harness and ABS sensor bracket. Re gap the sensor to the speed ring hub. Here is the bulletin. 2004 Toyota 4Runner Sport Brake Problem

This is a problem with the ABS applying itself prematurely. From my personal experience with this vehicle this could happen for a few reasons.
  1. One of the wheel ABS speed sensors are Bad and providing a false reading that the car is about to skid before a complete stop and therefore actives the ABS. ( that's the pushing back of the pedal that you feel at slow speeds just before a FULL STOP).
  2. Its can be also cause by the gear that the sensor is reading or getting its signal from, (this gear is on the Axles and its goes in to the Hubs).
This can also because by the ABS unit itself that's malfunctioning and in my opinion should be under warranty from TOYOTA.
In my experience in my shop it was the ABS unit once and the ABS sensor about 3 times.
Here is mu suggestion have this vehicle hooked up to a SNAP-ON scanner with ABS program and drive ON LIVE DATA while driving look at wheel speeds coming from ABS/speed sensors on wheels. They should all be the same. Try to duplicate problem(hitting bumps on brakes etc) At this time if there is a problem with the sensor it should show a different speed and it will activate ABS. If then works out then you have found the source of the problem and you can make necessary repairs. Good Luck and contact if you need more help, Thanks for using FIX YA
