Put a peice of wood on the jack saddle and jack the vehicle on the passenger side pinch weld if you are using a floor jack. If using factory jack... It fits over the pinch weld right below the rocker panel. Put jack stand under lower control arm

I use the oil pan all the time on these motors to raise lower the engine during belt replacement. Use a hydraulic floor jack with a piece of 2x4 on the saddle so the oil pan is not sitting on the steel jack saddle.

2008 sienna water pump replacement

For 2008, the water pump is not driven by the timing belt. Also, the motor does not have to be lifted. The haynes manual says to pull the ac unit, alternator, and drive axle, which is not required. Also, you do not have to lift the motor. I saw this on the net, which is incorrect for 2008 Sienna.1) Drain the system of anti-freeze2) take-off the passenger side front tire to get to the access panel, using a jack stand on the body.2) remove the access panel, and you should see most of the bottom bolts of the water pump3) do not remove the serpentine belt just yet, crack the bolts holding the water pump pulley, but do not remove them. If you remove the belt, you will be fighting against yourself to unloosen them later. 4) remove the serpentine belt (see youtube - a guy has a video of this piece which is easy)5) remove the top engine mount, which has about 4 bolts6) remove the aluminum bracket surrounding the thermostat housing which has about 7, and yes, some are long. 7) remove the thermostat housing, and disconnect the 3/4 hose in the back8) remove the belt tensioner pulley, by wrenching clockwise. 9) remove the 2nd serpentine pulley10) remove the 4 bolts for the water pump pulley11) remove the 16 bolts of the water pump12) reverse your order, and you should be good to go. Also, I replaced mythermostat, when the housing was out. Good Luck !

Trying to R & R the serpentine belt on a 1999 Olds Delta 88. The belt is routed arond a motor mount. Do I have to jack the motor and disconnect it from the motor mount in order to remove and replace...

yes you do. place a floor jack under engine with a block of wood on top of jack to protect the engine, put just enough pressure on jack to steady engine. remove motor mount, then jack up engine a bit to take belt off. replace the belt then lower jack and attach the mount. on the mount only the outside bolts need to come off to raise engine. do not remove from engine side unless you are changing it or its bad, be carefull when raising engine, pick it up from a sturdy place, not the oil pan. have a good day !!

How to replace a water pump on a 2005 dodge grand caravan water pump is leaking, added fluid but is still leaking and now more frequently want to replace it as a do it ourselves

this isnt a solution, just a suggestion.my husband,a fairly skilled home mechanic, recently did this.it took 12 hours over a 2 day period.you have to remove everything from the front of the motor, including the motor mounts,to access the pump.make sure you change the timing belt at the same time if it shows ANY signs of wear so you aren't doing the procedure again anytime soon..good luck!!

How do i replace the serpentine belt on a 94 grand am se, with a/c, 5 spd manual

If it's like the GT model then you have to take the top engine mount off near the coolant which you also need to jack the engine up using a 2x4 between the jack and oil pan to get to the 3 bolts on the side bracket mounted on the engine right below the power steering pump

I need to remove the water pump on a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. What is neccesary to remove the front timing chain cover? I have the instructions to remove the water pump, but it involves removing the front...

Just to clarify i asked what size motor was in his car. The reason for that statement that removing the timing cover ,chain and exhaust wasent required to change the water pump is that on 3.4 V6 engines none of that is required. To change the water pump in my car ( 99 grand am gt 3.4L) all you need to do is remove serpentine belt, remove the 4 bolts holding on the water pump pulley, then remove the 5 water pump retaining bolts and it out. Then you just need t remove any traces of the old gasket clean the surface put a new gasket on following it with the new water pump torque the 5 retaining bolts , water pump pulley torque its 4 bolts put the serpentine belt back on fill and bleed the coolant system and your done. All the work done easily from the top of the motor without any special tools. It took me a hour and a half. So there is a huge difference in changing water pumps on a 4 cylinder engine and a 6 cylinder engine this is why I asked what engine he had in his car.

IT WONT COME OUT AS THE PUMP & PULLEY HAVE TO COME OUT TOGEATHER. REMOVE 5 WATER PUMP BOLTS AND CAREFULLY WORK WATER PUMP OUT BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND VEHICLE FRAME. CLEAN ALL MATING/GASKET SURFACES AND BOLTS. USING A SMALL AMOUNT OF TACKY SEALENT TO INSURE THE NEW WATER PUMP SEAL STAYS IN PLACE, THE INSTALL IS PRITTY MUCH THE REVERSAL OF REMOVAL.

GOOD LUCK, REMEMBER TO TIGHTEN ALL BOLTS TO MFR SPECS AND BLEED THE AIR OUT OF THE COOLANT AS REQUIRED.

Need help changing the serpentine belt on a 1995 grand am "pontiac"

I had to do this several years back and mind you it is not as easy as I would have thought. You will need to position a jack under the engine to support it because you will have to jack the engine up slightly and completely remove the upper motor mount on the right side to be able to route the belt through the pulleys properly. also if you wish the inner fender well could be removed to help access but you will have to remove the motor mount. Mine is a 1995 grand am gt with the 3.1 v-6. Hope this helps.

Water pump replacement

the water pump should be located front right of motor the only thing that may take some time is if the belt needs to be replaced some models require you remove part of the engine mount. Job should take a pump / belt if damaged / antifreeze.
