SOURCE: crank shaft doesnt line up with anyother pulleys

It may be a thrust bearing failure on the crankshaft. See if you can pry or push/pull the crank pulley in and out. If you can move the pulley in and out very much at all there is a problem with the thrust bearings and the engine will need major repair.

SOURCE: My brother and I discovered

If the pulley wheel doesn't seem to connect to anything else it is probably just your tension pulley.
These are only to keep the serpentine belt tight while allowing it to adjust to some limited extent.

You can replace the pulley itself. These commonly grind when they go bad, or in your case it sounds like yours just broke off..

SOURCE: The Serpentine belt keeps walking off the Crank

Before you change anything,,check and see if everything is in line..Also feel all the pulleys and make sure everything turns ok...If the powersteering pump has been replaced,,sometimes the pulley was not pressed on far enough..If it seem to be the harmonic balancer make sure its not damage and the bolt in the middle is tight...If you remove it..You remove middle bolt,,then you have to use a puller to remove the harmonic balancer itself..unusuall for the harmonic balancer to be bad unless it was hit by something

Crank shaft pulley not aligned

You may have a bad bearing or bushing in one of the idler pulleys, the belt tensioner, or the alternator. Normally the crankshaft pulley aligns unless somebody changed timing gears or the pulley itself and it's not all the way in.

On a 2005 Hyundia Sonata, should the crank shaft pulley feel loose? I recently have gone through 3 steering wheel belts. I assumed the first belt frayed because it was old and brittle. The new belt...

No, there are no bearings in the crankshaft pulley. No, it's not a common problem. The pulley is simply loose!

First determine if the pulley bolts to the harmonic dampener or if it's all one piece.

If one piece, then there is probably 1 bolt in the center of the dished portion that has loosened. If not repaired, the harmonic dampener can fall off, possibly damaging the end of the crankshaft.

If it's not 1 piece, then there will probably 3 or maybe 4 bolts in a circular pattern around the edge of the pulley bolting it to the harmonic dampener. Check to make sure all bolts are there and tighten down. A flexible mechanics mirror comes in handy for seeing exactly whats in the dish of the pulley.

If I were you, I wouldn't start the engine until this is properly resolved.

Good luck!

How to set timing when you relesh tensioner and it changes the alignment postion of pullies 2000 ford ranger 2.5 l

Here is the trick. Align marks. Put the timing belt on the crank shaft pulley first, and after on the overhead cam pulley. Release tensioner and rotate the crank shaft till the timing belt makes two full circles. Try to align marks, you will be at least one tooth off. Align the crank shaft on the mark, and find out how many teeth you are off at the cam shaft pulley. Count the teeth. Remove the timing belt from cam shaft pulley only. Move cam shaft pulley in reverse according to the number of teeth you counted. Make sure the crank shaft pulley is on the mark. Mount the belt at cam shaft pulley.Rotate the belt two circles and check the marks. Repeate this procedure til after releasing the tensioner, and rotating the timing belt two full circles, the mars will be align.

Replaced serpintine belt for power steering, alternator and crank shaft but belt still squeels. And appears to be tight. Slack is of 1/4 in..Is there one of these three components froze up. Power steering...

The crank shaft is not froze up if the engine is running. Without knowing how severe the situation is, it is probably best to remove the belt and feel each pulley or drive wheel to detect the condition of the bearings. It should be very clear which pulley bearing is loose by "wiggling" the pulleys. One of the pulleys will have a lot of play in the bearing. Also the pulley with the bad bearing will be hard to turn by hand with the belt off. Be sure to check every pulley on that belt circuit, except the crank shaft, you can't turn it by hand.

I need to know where the crank sensor is located

behind the harmonic balancer. THis is the main drive pulley for all your belts. It will be on the crank shaft but the opposite end of the motor from the transmission

How to replace timing belt 1995 vw golf

  1. remove air intake pipe, and box (upper and lower section)
  2. take off timing belt cover
  3. take off serpintine belt, and v belt
  4. rotate engine to TDC marks line up on crank and cam. camshaft says O^T on it and on the cover behind gear, crank has a notch in the pulley and a arrow on the cover to line up
  5. remove crank pulley 6mm allens not the 19mm 12 bolt
  6. make sure timing belt is still at TDC remove lower timing belt cover there is 3 bolts and a nut holding it on the nut is by the water pump and the bolts are on on top and 2 behind the crank pulley
  7. remove cover
  8. mark intermediate shaft shaft right above the crank pulley
  9. remove belt
  10. install reverse of removal make sure to line up all 3 pulleys cam crank and intermediate shaft or it wont run and depending on how bad it is out of time if you do it wrong you could bend valves
Assuming this is a 2.0 8v your question is pretty vague

51 plate 1.8 16v petrol, aux belt shredded and wrapped itself under cam belt for second time in 3 years ! EVERY VALVE BENT

you need to have the timing gears changed and have the mechanic check end play on the crank shaft and the end play on the cam and check the tensioner pulley for wear. If these are ok then you will need to see if it's a bad belt, Never use after market parts for timing belts use factory parts so it will last longer. This is a common thing for a mechanic to forget to check when replacing the timing belt. Hope this helps and thanks for using Fix-ya.

Crank shaft pulley

Not too hard if you have a pulley puller. Remove the belt, remove the crank shaft bolt, pull the crank pulley off, then reinstall in reverse order.
