You are better off taking it out from the inside of the steering column after removing the steering wheel. When the cylinder is rotated it moves a shaft that travels down the inside of the steering column that activates the ignition. There are on wires attached to the cylinder that will give you ignition. If you must drill it out you will need at least a 1/2 ins to 3/4 ins drill and that will butcher it.

SOURCE: 2007 gmc sierra 2500 IAT sensor

Well, the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor is located on the air intake duct between the filter and the throttle body (Assuming you have the 6L motor). The wires are easily visible at the plug that connects the sensor to the wiring harness. That's the easiest place to access them.

SOURCE: 1997 GMC Sierra Ignition Switch Replacement

take off the cover on the top and bottom of the steering column just behind the wheel. pop the tilt lever out simply just by grabbing it and give it a good tug. then once you have the new switch and you get in there your going to need an inverted torx socket to remove the small bolts that hold the switch to the column. do not move the gear on the new switch make sure it lines up exactly as the old one did!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to put a new ignition cylinder in my truck but all the information I get tells me to turn the key on. I lost the key. I bought a new cylinder and keys, but can't get the cylinder in.

Some people drill out the lock cylinder. I take no responsibility for any drilling you do, any damage, that's on you.

YouTube has videos for stuff like this. I've never tried it, never had to. I guess I'm just lucky.

Just to add, you may be able to go down steering column, to help remove?

How do i change ignition switch on 2007 gmc sierra pickup truck?

It may have to be drilled if you don't want to spend the money for a locksmith. The cylinder has to turn to on to be removed on most models.

How to remove an ignition on a 1997 gmc sierra but without a key

The lock pin that's keeping you from removing the switch normally won't push up but some do, try that first. Next is to drill out the core of the lock cylinder without going past the edges of what's being replaced. You'll need some needle nose pliers to pull out the internal parts once you drill a large enough hole & you'll be able to turn the cylinder to where the pin will release & let you extract the remaing part.

good luck

How to replace ignition key in 1997 gmc sierra 2500,,tack and speedo don't work but all other gauges work

for the ignition key you have to take off the two plastic covers on the steering column. (three torx screws) remove the ignition switch and it is righ there. your speedometer has a direct cable into the transmission and should be a fairly easy repair

I have a 1996 GMC K2500 power staying on to my heater fan

Hardly seems worth changing the lock cylinder, since it is not that easy.
Just be more careful turning the ignition off.
Put in an ignition indicator light on the dash if you have to.

How do I remove the key tumbler 96 gmc pickup?

Most often the lack of spring back is not the key and tumbler set itself. There is no spring back in the tumbler but rather the internal area of the column- you can determine this by cylinder removal if you know how to remove. A 96 is most often what they consider a 10 cut side bar ignition. by diconnecting your battery and removing some shroud around the ignition. You will need to turn the key to crank postion and hold it their in order to depress the retainer that holds the cylinder in place, located top ignition.( Retainer small hole area)
While depressing retainer pull cylinder out -and you will have lock in hand for you to examine.
