P0183 Subaru - Fuel Temperature Sensor 'A' Circuit High Input ' Add Comment
Possible causes
- Faulty Fuel Temperature Sensor
- Fuel Temperature Sensor harness is open or shorted
- Fuel Temperature Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
What does this mean?
When is the code detected?
An excessively high voltage from the sensor is sent to ECM.
Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
P0183 Subaru Description
The fuel tank temperature sensor is used to detect the fuel temperature inside the fuel tank. The sensor modifies a voltage signal from the ECM. The modified signal returns to the ECM as the fuel temperature input. The sensor uses a thermistor which is sensitive to the change in temperature. The electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increase

this sensor is in the fuel tank on the fuel pump assembly. If you look under the carpet behind the rear passenger seat, you should see a sort of rectangular access cover. Underneath this cover is the connector to the fuel pump. Make sure that all looks good. Could just be a bad connection. Sometimes when you have the fuel filter replaced a place will unhook this connector. When it's reconnected it might not be fully seated or have a bent pin or something

Testimonial: "Hey rebel thank you for the tip! I will definitely check on that asap. It sure would be nice not to have to replace it...seems almost pointless though as it apparently has little to no function in the driveability of the car. Well, at least it will pass the emissions test and maybe gain me some mileage along the way. Thanks again!!"

If your vehicle has a MAF (mass airflow sensor), try disconnecting it and running the vehicle. If it runs ok ... suspect the MAF.

Commonly, a fault with the MAF does not cause an engine check light

What should I check on a 97 Subaru Outback that shows a knock sensor code?

the knock sensor itself can be faulty if there is a code showing for it.

CEL lights only come on if a sensor fails its diagnostic, it is nothing to do with the particular sensors readings, but telling you the sensor itself is bad.

The knock sensor is a little microphone attached directly to the cylinder block side wall.

Engine light came on. The dealership said it was diagnostic code P0420 and that it would cost @ $1,200.00 to repair. This seem pretty high. What is this diagnostic code about and is the repair rate

Hi, this code represents a Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). and the repair, considering that it will be repaired by the dealership, seems to be in the normal cost range. The labor is what usually inflates the price when dealing with catalytic replacements.

You could probably get a better deal by taking it to a non dealership type of repair shop. This may cut at least 200 dollars of the original dealership quote.

Please rate and god bless:)

You could purchase an OBD tool so you can check the diagnostic code yourself.
Harbor Freight Tools has them on sale fairly often; I paid $40 US for mine and it applies to our two vehicles, Subaru Outback '02 & a '97 Jeep.
Auto parts stores also have them of course but rarely that cheap.
If you choose to buy one, check to make sure that is an OBD II tool so you can use it later as well.
They come with a primitive but adequate program (for PCs) that will decode the readout if you lose the manual that came with it.

On a trip to Florida, my Outback gave me that head up and I could find nothing wrong anywhere so ignored it and a day later, it went off by itself and hasn't returned.
Computers have hiccoughs somtimes.
