disconnecting the battery does not matter. No power goes to the pump until the ignition is turned on. If your fuel gauge is working the float is OK. there is no float in the pump.

1999 lincon town car no power to fuel injectors

My suggestion would be is to have your "fuel pump" checked. With the gas deposits etc, it can clog it up, or make the float stay stuck closed.

Fuel float/sending unit/fuel pump

The float and sender are a single unit, sold as a unit. The fuel pump and strainer are then attached to the sender unit. In the end its a one unit, its just that the pump and sender are sold seperately. Maybe this helps:)

Fuel pump relay

While you could have a fuel pressure (pump/pump relay) problem. I would suggest that you have a fuel flow problem. Check your accelerator pump, float and float needle (think: carb kit), and fuel filter. If an insufficient amount of fuel is reaching the float chamber just before you shut off the engine, that small amount could evaporate out from engine heat, leaving nothing in the float chamber for the next engine start.

The gas tank gets to a quarter tank and the car stops also done came across the mileage

well the fuel gauge is wrong for sure which usually results in the float on the fuel pump being bent when put back in by technician or someone who is not careful when they put it back in for sure happens all the time the gauge says one thing but its out of gas.but if you have not had fuel pump put then when the fuel levels gets low the pump gets hot and kicks the reset thus shutting the fuel pump.and the on board fuel miles to empty are never correct usually they will run 10 to 15 miles after the miles 0 anyway they are almost never correct replacement of the float should remedy the problem but unfortunately the assembly has to be changed fuel pump and all cause it all one.

Just put fuel pump in.does anyone known what the ball that floats free is for?

Fuel Pump Float
When the fuel level in the float bowl exceeds a certain level, the inlet valve to the carburetor will close, preventing the fuel pump from pumping more fuel into the carburetor.

Fuel gage 2000 inpala gas gage will not work how do I truble shoot it

my impala,s back seat folds forward, pull up trunk carpet from back seat.remove inspection plate, then undo fuel pump from tank, sending unit on fuel pump has brass fingers that touch a contact surface, carefully remove clip holding float to pump, you need to bend carefully the fingers,so that they will contact better.reasemble play with float to make sure fingers stay in contact with contact surface.
