Question about 1991 Ford F350

2 Answers

My 1991 ford F350 w/460 EFI is really hard to start after sitting for a week or so, and once I have it running it does not want to rev. It pops and misses, almost like a bad mass air flow sensor.

That's pretty much it, it sounds like vacume secondaries opening while missing and popping or a bad mass air flow sensor

Sounds like a lean misfire condition. Have you run a fuel pressure test? Should be 55-60 lbs. If pressure is ok during idle and reving, Ttry disconnecting MAF and see if any difference on accel.

Testimonial: "Do you know where it is on a 91 f350, it's not anywhere it normally would be found. From air box to throttle body there is nothing, there is a TC sensor on throttle body and some kinda sensor under the throt-body on the plinum but other then that nothing I can see"

Sorry my bad... This vehicle does not have a MAF....Too old. I would srart with fuel pressure testing and verify it is correct before looking at other sources

Do a fuel sample after it sits for a similar time. Water in fuel gives exactly same symptoms. Pour in a can or 2 of "Dry Gas".

I suspect there should be a spring to return the throttle lever to the idle position. Without the spring, the throttle plate will stay open and allow the engine to run at high rpm.

Ford Econoline Hard to Start

I think that if you have a carby system that I would be checking the auto choke operation. IF efi I would be running fault codes looking for sensor problems in the air intake area. Check the duel switch and ensure that there is not possibility of an air leak allowing fuel to drain back in the system as replacing the unit appears to be the start of your problem

Check the vacuum hose that goes from the intake manifold to the brake booster sounds like it may have a hole in it.The vacuum leak will cause your motor to idle high and it also will cause your brake very hard because with out vacuum from the engine the brake booster will not work.

My 1986 Ford F-150 5.0 EFI runs good, but when I start it it revs to 1700 rpm untill I give it a little gas then it drops to normal rpm. How do I stop it from the high revs when started?

Does it rev high when started cold or hot? If it does it either hot or cold, check the throttle position sensor on throttle body. If that is not bad, then check the automatic choke sensor.

More than likely the choke is sticking, spray some WD40 on the carb components and see if that helps.
