There is a fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. It could be bad. To check this pull off the vacuum line and turn the ignition on without trying to start the car. If fuel comes out of the vacuum hose fitting the fuel pressure regulator is bad. Another possibility is a bad fuel pump. Check your fuel preasure. If low or non exisitant replace fuel pump only after checking fuel pressure regulator. Good luck.

A 460 engine that acts like its not getting enough fuel. Will start but runs as if only on half the cylinders missing badly or such.

Check your running fuel pump pressure. If (as I suspect) it's too low, first try changing your fuel filter. After changing the filter, recheck the running fuel pump pressure. If still low, check you fuel pump pressure regulator. If OK, you may need a new fuel pump.

Also probably would be a good idea to replace you air filter.

Good luck!

When i've been driving for a while, it stalls out and won't start-acting like it's starving for fuel. after it sits and cools down for a couple of hours then it starts and runs fine. Fuel pump??

Change the fuel filter. It is usually located passenger side along the frame rail ahead of the rear tire. You're right, it's starving for gas & because of this your fuel line is heating up & causing vapor lock. This is why your car won't start when hot. Good luck!

Mustang stalls when trying to drive and will shut down

Measure fuel pressure on injector rail - should be 38 to 40 psi. If low or fluctuating, then replace regulator. Another possibility is the in-tank filter being clogged - rare I know, but trash in the gas tank and it's clogged.

No/Low Fuel Pressure after replacing in-tank fuel pump & filter

Need to have the fuel pressure checked at fuel rail to know for sure if there is a fuel pressure problem for sure. There may be a in line filter as well, you can also do a check of the pressure regulator by pulling the vacuum line off of it then try starting the car with it off and see if it runs, if it does the regulator is bad, but IF it doesnt run doesnt necessarly mean it is good, a lot of fuel filters have a bypass wich allows the gas to bypass the filter when it is full bad thing is the debris can then plug the injectors causing problems, or there could be a loss of signal to tell the injectors to give fuel to the cylinders from an electrical or a sensor failure. So it is best to test the pressure to know for sure if it is in the fuel line or the injectors if it is truly being starved of gas. hope this helps

Starving for fuel sometimes I changed the fuel filter but problem persists. I'm thinking it may be a vacuum problem to the fuel tank. Thoughts? Russ

well there can be a few things that cause this
first off if this was in my shop I would check the fuel regulator this allows fuel back into the tank from the fuel rail so that you dont over pressure the fuel rail, if it is leaking past then this will starve the engine for fuel, also note that if your EVAP system onthe fuel tank is not working proporly the check engine light will come on there are sensors in place to worn you of a problem there and this will not starve your engine for fuel, if its not the regulator then its a fuel pump, only way to tell is to put a fuel pressure gage on the rail and drive the vehicle till it acts up and see what the pressure rating is at most newer vahicles require arround 50 plus PSI if below that you have a pressure problem and need ot possibly replace regulator on the fuel rail... if you need more help just replay ill check in later

Sounds like it is starving for fuel...the other guys sound right...check your fuel filter and fuel pressure...if the filter is nearly stopped up the pump would build pressure which would "push" past the filter and make it feel more powerful...then as the pressure drops it starts to starve again until the pressure builds up enough. Also, with the vehicle parked and running, get someone to rev it up while you feel the air coming out of the exhaust...if it isn't a good amount of pressure coming out of the tailpipe, your converter may be stopping up. be careful not to get burned by the exhaust though.
