The clutch pads always face the flywheel. Change the release bearing and front crankshaft oil seal while you are at it, you'll be glad you did!

SOURCE: Renault megane clutch

Unsure about Reanult-specific app here, but usually the higher-deck faces the pressure plate. The springs on the disc are higher on one side. I'm sorry I don't know about Renault exactly.

SOURCE: I have removed the gearbox from my 2000 MB 100 Van. I found the clutch plate has disintergrated. I noticed the Flywheel clutch pressure face looks like it will come off. Is there more to this clutch s

flywheel bolted to engine, clutch disk and pressure plate, also has a throw out bearing that should be replaced at the same time.
you don't need to replace the flywheel unless it is cracked though you should have it turned down at a machine shop.

Which side of the clutch plate faces the crankshaft side?

hold the clutch plate against the flywheel and try to rotate
if it is wrong the hub section will hit on the flywheel bolt heads

practice dictates that the raised section ( bit with the springs in the housing of the clutch plate) faces the gear box so that there is clearance to those springs to the flywheel bolt heads
besides that if you have a new clutch plate if will have " this side to the flywheel" printed on it

Replacement clutch is too small? Thought there was only one engine in 2000 hyundai accent, the 1.5L. Title says its been rebuilt twice. How do I find out what clutch i need to ask for?

the different clutch sizes are for the different capacity engines
The 7" would be most likely be for the 1.4 or 1.6 version engines where the 8" would be for the for the 2.0 or 2.4l engines
If the flywheel is flat across the face ( not recessed) the the clutch plate you want will fit as long as the pressure plate is the same diameter and the bolts fit the cover to the flywheel
it is possible to get a standard clutch kit or a heavy duty clutch kit which has a higher pressure plate reading to cope with heavier loads ( towing etc)
if an 8" came out , you need to replace it with an 8"
The bigger the clutch , the longer the period before replacing it
If you can get to it you can measure the shiny wear patterns on the flywheel and if the incorrect plate was fitted at some time you will see the old wear pattern outside the latest shiny surface
what you have to be aware of is the spline number and size of the new clutch plate so try it on the input shaft before fitting to the flywheel

Are you sure you installed clutch plate facing right way? They are either stamped or have a tag says "flywheel side". Or might have wrong clutch kit.

I need to replaced clutch lining of my car with 4d56 engine, i dont know which side of lining to facing the flywheel. i need a correct position of the clutch lining.

Most I have seen have "flywheel side" printed on the inner surface. If it doesn't then the longer portion of the center "spline" goes back towards the transmission

We just got a 1985 F350, we need to replace the clutch and not sure exactly how to go about it...we have the transmission down and the clutch kit just need to know where to go from there. Thanks to anyone...

The first thing to do is to have the flywheel re-surfaced because a warped flywheel will cause the clutch to chatter or shudder when you let up the clutch pedal, and also be certain that the pilot bearing is replaced, it can be difficult to remove the pilot bearing from the end of the crankshaft and you will most likely need to obtain a good pilot bearing puller to remove it.

Clean the bell-housing and the rear of the engine block while the flywheel is being re-surfaced, and be sure that all of the old clutch material and dust has been cleaned from the bell-housing and the rear of the engine block, and contamination from an old clutch disk will lead to early clutch failure.

After the flywheel has been installed and torqued down, then you will need to mount the clutch disk and the pressure-plate assembly together onto the flywheel, and be sure that the clutch disk is facing the right way (usually the spring hub will go towards the pressure-plate assembly), and then start to install the pressure-plate assembly bolts but only hand tighten them for now. After the bolts have been started then use the clutch disk alignment tool that should have come with the clutch kit to align the clutch disk with the pilot bearing, and when you have it aligned so that the alignment tool easily slips through the clutch disk and into the pilot bearing, then tighten down the bolts to the pressure-plate assembly one turn at a time in a criss-cross pattern until the pressure-plate assembly is flush with the flywheel and then you can torque down the pressure-plate assembly bolts. This is a critical step and the better aligned that you get the disk and pilot bearing, and the easier it is to remove and replace the alignment tool, the easier it will be to install the transmission, and the transmission input shaft should slip smoothly through the clutch disk and into the pilot bearing and not have any difficulties mounting up to the engine, and if the transmission hangs up when you are installing it and and the transmission input shaft does not go straight in through the clutch disk and into the pilot bearing, it can damage the clutch hub and the clutch will chatter or shudder when you let the clutch pedal up, and it will shorten the life of the clutch.

After the clutch has been aligned then install the throw-out/release bearing onto the transmission input shaft collar and the throw-out/release bearing fork, and use a lithium based grease on the pivot points of the throw-out/release bearing fork and where the fork contacts the throw-out/release bearing, and if it did not come greased, then lightly grease the inside of the throw-out/release bearing with a lithium based grease and do not over do it on the grease, you want just enough grease to keep the throw-out bearing and the input shaft collar lubricated but still have a smooth operation to it, and you do not want to damage the clutch from oil or grease contamination as this will cause the new clutch disk to slip.

The transmission can now be installed into the vehicle and be careful not to hang the transmission input shaft on the clutch disk or the clutch disk will be damaged. I hope that this information will help you to replace that clutch with a proper quality repair that you will get the most out of.

I HAVE A 1999 SATURN SL PUT NEW CLUTCH IN AND A NEW PREBLEED CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER AND SLAVE CYLINDER,HAVE GOOD CLUTCH PRESSURE WHEN PUSHING DOWN PEDAL BUT CLUTCH IS NOT ENGAGING. ANY IDEAS?

Are you certain you or your mechanic installed the clutch plate facing the right direction? It is usually marked on one side to tell you which way to face it. I have personally done this and had the same issue, if the hub portion of the plate is rubbing on the flywheel it won't kick out or in all the way, and if left it can cause damage to the flywheel.

Good luck.

Clutch won't release on 92 Nissan P/U. Changed Clutch Master Cylinder and slave. Bled system. Have good travel on slave cylinder but still does not release the clutch when the pedal is pushed?

If the vehicle has been standing for some time (6 months or more) without use, the clutch plate facings may be 'stuck' to the flywheel and pressure plate surface.
To check/clear this problem:-
(with the engine not running!)
hold clutch pedal down - then from under vehicle, find an opening in the clutch bellhousing (such as a water drain slot) where you can see/access the edge of the clutch plate (sandwiched between the pressure plate and flywheel).
Use a screwdriver blade (or similar tool) to prise clutch plate free from flywheel face (only small movement is required).
If the above is not the cause of your problem, 1) the clutch throwout mechanism should be examined for problems,
2) the pressure plate is faulty- may need to be replaced.

2003 Tiburon 6 spd clutch replacement now tranny won't respond

Possibility, you may have intalled the clutch disk backwards.... if so, the disk hub is torqued against the crankshaft hub preventing engagement of the clutch. 2003 TIBUORN DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH DISC ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION: The 2003 MY 2.7L Tiburon vehicle equipped with the 6-speed manual transaxle employs a dual mass flywheel system. The 2003 Tiburon Shop Manual does not show the clutch disc assembly with the dual mass flywheel. This bulletin provides information about how to assemble these components. NOTE Although it is possible to assemble the clutch disc with either side facing the flywheel surface, only the assembly of these two parts shown in this bulletin is correct.
PARTS ASSEMBLY:
  1. Attach the dual mass flywheel to the engine crankshaft assembly.
  2. Identify the clutch disc flange side and the collar side as shown. 0240025a.gif
  3. Install the collar side of the clutch disc on the dual mass flywheel surface so that the flange side is facing the pressure plate side as shown. 0240025b.gif
  4. Attach the pressure plate to the dual mass flywheel and complete assembly of the remaining components per the Shop Manual procedures. 0240025c.gif
