check that the oil level is correct as extra oil foams up and the oil pressure falls. Around town driving does not put a strain on the cooling system but continuous highway driving does and shows up as blocked cores and collapsing bottom radiator hoses. Ignition timing is critical at high speeds so ensure that that is correct. Check that the temperature gauge is accurate as the noise and missing is indicative of an overheating engine.

Check the base of the oil dip stick (ON THE BLOCK SIDE / under the car)

A crack at the base of the dipstick tube will care 2-3 quarts of oil spillage.

The only fix is to replace the oil tube on the bottom end,

I cannot slide out/remove oil bottom pan of my 1990 cadillac fleetwood front drive engine. something like a oil strainer is blocking.


What you have there is the oil pump pick up tube. It does indeed have a small screen on the bottom end.

To get the pan out, you can either disconnect motor mounts and raise engine up, or try to access the bolts holding the pick up tube to the bottom of the oil pump.

If there is sufficient space between the pan and the bottom of the block, I'd try to remove the pick up tube if I were you.

Be sure to thoroughly clean the gasket surface on the mating flange of the pick up tube and the oil pump.

A air leak at this point, after re-installation would be a really bad day for you.

The pump would be unable to pull enough (if, in fact, any) oil from the pan to properly lubricate the engine.

Sounds like you reasonably well understand what you're doing, so I won't belabor the point about making sure the gasket surface is cleaned.

Oil Is Leaking Out Under The Harminc Balancer On my 92 Jeep Wrangler,4.0 6cyl. I Replaced The Main Seal & Put A New Balancer On & It Still Leaks From The Bottom Of The Balancer


  1. timing cover is leaking oil betwwen cover and block
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the drive belt(s), fan and fan shroud. If equipped, remove the accessory drive belt pulley.
  4. Remove the vibration damper retaining bolt and washer. Remove the vibration damper using a suitable puller.
  5. Remove the accessory drive brackets attached to the timing cover.
  6. Remove the A/C compressor, if equipped, and alternator bracket from the cylinder head and move to one side.
  7. Remove the oil pan-to-timing case cover bolts and the cover-to-cylinder block bolts.
  8. Remove the timing case cover front seal and gasket from the engine.
  9. Cut off the oil pan side gasket end tabs and oil pan front seal tabs flush with the front face of the cylinder block. Remove the gasket tabs.
  10. Clean the timing case cover, oil pan and cylinder block gasket surfaces.
  11. Remove the crankshaft seal oil seal from the cover by prying it out with a suitable tool.

To install:

  1. Install a new seal in the timing cover using a suitable seal installation tool.
  2. Apply sealer to both sides of the replacement cover gasket and position the gasket on the cylinder block. Cut the end tabs off the replacement oil pan gasket corresponding to those cut off the original gasket. Attach the end tabs to the oil pan with sealer.
  3. Coat the front cover seal end tab recesses generously with sealer and position the seal on the timing cover.
  4. Apply engine oil to the seal-oil pan contact surface, then position the cover on the cylinder block.
  5. Insert timing case cover alignment tool J22248 or equivalent, in the crankshaft opening. Install the cover-to-cylinder block bolts and tighten them to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm). Install and tighten the oil pan-to-cover bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  6. Remove the cover alignment tool and position a replacement oil seal on the tool with the seal lip facing outward. Apply a light coat of sealer to the seal and a light coat of oil to the crankshaft. Install the seal on the timing cover.
  7. Apply a light film of oil to the vibration damper hub seal contact surface. Install the vibration damper using a suitable installation tool.

Do not hammer the damper into place as damage may result to the damper or engine.

  1. Install and tighten the crankshaft vibration damper bolt to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
  2. If equipped, install the crankshaft pulley and tighten the bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  3. Install the accessory brackets.
  4. Install the fan and fan shroud.
  5. Install the drive belt(s) and adjust to the proper tension.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks
  8. .

How to repair front crankshaft seal leaks oil


Need to get at the crankshaft seal, usually by removing the crankshaft pulley and using a seal remover to take out the old seal, then put a new seal in.

Here are some instructions on how to do the 'rear' seal:
Rear Main Seal Removal & Installation 2.4L, 3.3L & 3.8L Engines To Remove:
  1. Remove the transaxle and flexplate. CAUTION
    Make sure not to damage the crankshaft sealing surface when removing the oil seal.
  2. Insert a flat-bladed pry tool or equivalent through the dust lip at an angle.
  3. Carefully pry the oil seal out of the engine. Pry against the chamfered edge of the crankshaft, do not damage the sealing surface of the crankshaft or an oil leak may occur.
To Install:
CAUTION
Smooth any burr or rough edge on the crankshaft with 400 grit sandpaper to prevent seal damage during installation.
NOTE: When installing seal, no lube on seal is needed.
  1. Place special tool 6926-1 seal guide or equivalent on crankshaft.
  2. Place the seal on the guide. Make sure the seal lip is facing the crankshaft and the guide tool remains on the crankshaft. Rear crankshaft seal installation (2.4L engine shown, 3.3L & 3.8L engines similar) chry-03-24-827.gif

    CAUTION
    Do not drive the seal into the block past flush. An oil leak may occur.
  3. Drive the seal into the block using a seal driver or special tool 6926-2 and handle C-4171 until the tool bottoms out against the block and the seal is flush.
  4. Install the flexplate and transaxle.
3.0L Engine To Remove:
  1. Remove the transaxle and flexplate. CAUTION
    Make sure not to damage the crankshaft sealing surface when removing the oil seal.
  2. Remove the oil seal with housing from the rear of the engine block.
  3. Remove the oil seal from the housing.
To Install:
  1. Clean the sealing surfaces on the seal housing and engine block.
  2. Use a commercial seal installer to install the seal in the seal housing.
  3. Apply a light film of motor oil to the seal lip.
  4. Apply silicone sealant to the oil seal housing sealing surface and install the housing with seal on the engine block. Tighten all bolts to 104 in. lbs. (12 Nm).
  5. Install the flexplate and transmission.

06 cabalt 2.2 ecotec! moisture of sorts found in oil! on oil cap and bottom of dipstick! has any heard of cylinder head issues or block issues with this platform?


is the coolant level OK? losing any coolant? what kind of driving do you do? cold weather? short trips? engine not getting warmed up? how long does it take to drive to work? it could be normal, be sure to use a good oil, I would use MOBIL1 or Kendall Synthetic oil.

How do i fix my 95 ford thunderbird? it's pouring oil out of the bottom of my engine only when i crank it up.


There are many, many things that could be causing the problem. Short of a hands on diagnostic, the list is very daunting to go through. There are some basic things you could check first before you have4 it towed to a shop. Block your rear wheels so the car can't move then raise the front end so you can get under it. Get a flashlight or drop light and start looking at the oil pan and block for holes. You will see a trail of oil from where it is coming out and just follow that to the problem. It could be a loose or missing oil filter or a hole in the oil cooler, oil pan, cylinder head or block, or a torn gasket or warped component.. Any way you look at it repairs are needed before you attempt driving - you could ruin the engine quickly if you try to drive it, even just 1 mile. Check the oil level before you raise the car or go under to make sure you still have oil in the motor. Do not try to start it as this could also ruin the motor, requiring a new motor to be installed which would cost more than the car is worth.

Weres the oil pan on ford explorer


The oil pan is where the oil collects on the bottom of the engine before the pump picks it up and circulates it back up through the engine. So it will be the bottom most thing, bolted directly to the bottom of the engine block. Generally found about centered between the front wheels. Hint, looks like a pan with many little bolt heads around its outer perimeter. Rarely obstructions from the road puncture it, and often times with age its gasket leaks.

Bad oil leak by the starter on my 1988 chevy k1500 (305)


Could be the oil pan gasket or the rear main oil seal.
Remove the torque convertor cover. ( I am assuming that your truck is an automatic) That's that thin metal cover between the engine and transmission on the bottom side.
Drive the truck around the block to warm up and the oil to start leaking.
With the engine running in neutral, emergency brake on and wheels choked for safety.
Crawl under the truck and see where exactly the leak is. Is it between the flywheel and the engine block --leaking straight down the center of the flywheel --crankshaft rear seal?Or the pan gasket? or even a oil galley plug?
