awd drive trucks will do some funny things with mismatched tires. Causing the transfer case clutch to kick in. Tires all the way around need to be the same tire and also tread life. That was fun the first time around trying to diag that one. The next shudder could be the tourqe converter. When was the last time trans was flushed? Pull the dipstick and smell the fluid. Burnt flush it.

Could be a number of causes ....wheel bearings,shocks/struts,broken belt in radial tire, alignment ,inner or outer tie rods, cv shaft being full time awd , ball joints need more clarification to help eliminate each one jack each front corner of the vehicle up one side at a time move tire in and out at top and bottom then front to back check for play look for broken boot on cv shaft for grease usually grease comes out water and dirt go in check ball joints by jacking on lower control arm and leaving pressure on suspension put rod under tire and pry up any play would be a ball joint if there is play find a helping hand to determine upper or lower while help pry's up and you investigate

Are you talking about engine shutter or front wheels shuttering. If your engine shutters then i am will to bet it one of your cops(coil on plugs).

Time for another transmission. 97, I would look for a junk yard transmission. If the Explorer is worth that??

Vehicle shudders at certain speeds and rpms.

Sounds like the torque converter. can be tricky, new one expensive, I had the same problem, talked to a buddy who is ford master mechanic, he told me to DRAIN, the TC, then put new fluid in. He said DRAIN, and NOT flush. because if you flush, and the magnet inside is missing or screwed up, it will push all of the little pieces of metal and **** into transmission. I had the dealership do this, and it cost around 150-200. It worked, and I was lucky, cause they told me it hadad no magnet, but it worked, not shuddered since.

I have a 93 ford probe se the fuel cutoff light is on

when you are traveling about 35 or 40 mph press the brake just hard enough to make shudder let off do it again let and off. if you can control the shudder that way then its the brake if does not do it til you slow to a certian speed then the problem may be engine related. As far as the low idle there is an idle stabilizer which can definitely cause that problem. Or in some case an aged timing belt can cause similar issuses
