WD-40 will remove water and dry out things after sitting for a while I would say over night. In the day distributor caps would have moisture and WD-40 would help get it started. I would just let the car sit a day or 2 to dry out.

WD40 will dry out your ignition and you should be able to start it right away with no problems if this is the only problem. If you got starter totally wet try to spray it full of wd40 or any water displacement spray to get it from shortin out and turning over the engine. .....Rich

I drove my 2004 Pontiac Montana mini van in rain and water and now wont start. It cranks but no turn over.Day 2 hasn't started, in past when drove in water went out but started next day.

Hi Cynthia

If it cranks, it is turning over. I think you mean it cranks, but doesn't start.

Buy a can of WD40, the 'WD' is an abbreviation of 'Water Displacement', and was recipe/formula number 40.

Pull each spark plug cap in turn and spray the spark plug neck, and inside the spark plug cap. DON'T pull them all at once in case you lose the order

Then follow the spark plug leads to the distributor, this is a joiner for all your spark plugs and the power from the coil. The cap comes off with 2 clips. Spray inside the cap and the lightly, the bottom part. Pull the leads from the top of the distributor in turn, and spray the cap and the cover to the wire. DON'T pull them all at once in case you lose the order. The centre lead goes to the ignition coil. or coils, spray those too.

Now try and start it. The WD40 treatment should protect the electrics for a few months.

If that doesn't work, you need to check the condition of the spark plugs and if the gap is correct. And if that doesn't work, it is time to call a friendly mechanic.

Got caught in the rain storm, and drove through a deep puddle, now it won't start, nor kick start, what's wrong or needs to be done?

water is in some of the ignition parts ,dry it out good also try compressed air to blow off excess water and a spray of WD 40 will diperse any water in spark plug wires, a hair dryer can help but be careful not to burn any wires or plastic parts.other thing did any water get in the motor ?????? remove spark plugs and roll motor over by hand to check and see what is in cylinder ,look at plugs for signs of water .

I wash engine...and car do not start up

spray everything with a water dispersant (wd-40 or CRC) . spray into connections --in distributor cap and on plugs and leads . You have a water contamination problem from the water in the engine bay.

Car possibly hydrolocked - need repair advice or comments

from your description all that has happened is that the electronics was flooded and shorting out
use liberal amounts or wd-40 or equivalent on all components and harness connections, coils , modules , throttle connections etc and where or if possible blow dry with compressed air
run the fault codes to find any damaged sensors and repair/replace as required
have the cat converter checked for failure as immersing in water while hot generally causes them to crack and block the exhaust --may be the noise

The engine is locked up after they tried to drive across a flooded street

Remove spark plugs and try turn over engine if will not with plugs remove you bent the crankshaft , if it does turn over a couple of tmes and push water out of cylinders then spray wd 40 in them and let it sit outside in hot sun and dry. Change oil and reinstall plugs and go.
