I drove my 2004 Pontiac Montana mini van in rain and water and now wont start. It cranks but no turn over.Day 2 hasn't started, in past when drove in water went out but started next day.

Hi Cynthia

If it cranks, it is turning over. I think you mean it cranks, but doesn't start.

Buy a can of WD40, the 'WD' is an abbreviation of 'Water Displacement', and was recipe/formula number 40.

Pull each spark plug cap in turn and spray the spark plug neck, and inside the spark plug cap. DON'T pull them all at once in case you lose the order

Then follow the spark plug leads to the distributor, this is a joiner for all your spark plugs and the power from the coil. The cap comes off with 2 clips. Spray inside the cap and the lightly, the bottom part. Pull the leads from the top of the distributor in turn, and spray the cap and the cover to the wire. DON'T pull them all at once in case you lose the order. The centre lead goes to the ignition coil. or coils, spray those too.

Now try and start it. The WD40 treatment should protect the electrics for a few months.

If that doesn't work, you need to check the condition of the spark plugs and if the gap is correct. And if that doesn't work, it is time to call a friendly mechanic.

My car is turning over by it's self

WD-40 will remove water and dry out things after sitting for a while I would say over night. In the day distributor caps would have moisture and WD-40 would help get it started. I would just let the car sit a day or 2 to dry out.

Spark plug does not get a spark, I have relapsed the coil and distributor cap but still nothing , we have checked the fuses we ran trough a small pool of water in the rain and its stopped and from there...

Try unplugging and wd40 spray in them and re plug harnist connections under bonnit, and check that the crank censers have not picked up iron dust from bellhousing as crank censors are magnetic Re: Jeff

I drove threw some flooded roads and it didnt do anything right away but about 10 miles later my car just quit working and then wouldnt start it wants to turn over but it just wont do u have any idea about...

when you went threw the flooded roads it could have got a little bit of water into your engine so take out your spark plugs and start the engine to get the water out then drain your oil and see if it looks milky if so then change your oil and let your car run in idle for about 20 minutes then change the oil again. i hope this solves your problem

My motor was flooded w/ water and know it won't start. it does try to turn over, do i need to reset the fuel pump? if so how do i do this?

I assume you mean that the engine was sprayed with water. Try spraying the spark plug lead wires with WD40 or silicone spray. This should displace any water & allow engine to start! Good luck!

Key will not turn

Spray some WD40 into the lock and see if that helps but it sounds like the key is starting to wear. This is caused by putting too many things on the key chain and it wears a lot faster

My 95 chevy caprice won't start because of the pass key fault. how can i fix this problem?

I have a 96 Caprice and this has happened to me twice now. There are two wires that are behind the ignition (where the key goes) one or both of the wires have more thsn likely broken. I was told that the little chip in the key may have been bad so I had a new key made, didn't solve the problem!! Come to find out there was a guy in my area that rebuilds steering colums and ingnitions when there's a problem or someone tried to steal the vehicle. So I live in Dayton, Ohio hopefully your in the area probably not but try to find someone who works on cars in your area and have them take your ingnition out, and i'm about 90% sure that that is your problem. Hope it works for you. Kevin

Sounds like the passive security system on the key. I've had this happen on a Chevy before. The fix I did was to clean the key with WD40, and to spray WD40 into the ignition switch. Put the key in, turn it a few times, spray WD40 in again. Repeat this process 3 or 4 times.
It cleans the contact points with the key contacts it.
