You haven't mentioned vehicle , model ,year etc so can only give general advice which is to get the OBD codes read , if vehicle is pre 1996 then the OBDI is used and not as complete a system as the OBD II used after 1996 , this is why it is always better to give a bit more info , hope this helps you

I do apologise Dave , i cant give a reason why i responded that way , what i should have said was i dont have access to the Dodge codes as i am located in UK and we don't have many of these vehicle's , i've included a link to a Dodge forum that hopefully can help with a list of the Dodge codes or even how to translate into the more universally used OBD system , once again i apolagise , i dont like leaving poor advice etc , i can only think i just totally misread your post , hope this link helps

1998 dodge dakota 3.9 runs great for about 10 min. than starts to miss and backfire no check engine light

you may have a plugged fuel filter as you don`t say if you have changed it. also have your fuel pressure tested with a gage, it should run about 36 lbs pressure if its multi-point fuel injection or run at about 15/18 lbs pressure if its a throttle body.

My first thought is a leaking injector or fuel pressure regulator.
Is the check engine light on ?

Code p0171 on 98 ford ranger

Well code 171 means the O2 sensor is telling the computer the fuel mixture is too lean and the computer can not make it go rich by increasing on time for the injectors.
The problem could be the O2 sensor, or low fuel pressure, or several other factors.

Dodge ram 1500 5.9 idles rough and stales out

This truck has problems with the cover inside intake leaking vacuum and causing rough idle and oil usage , its hard to say what your problem is with out testing, have you had the check engine light scanned for codes? what year is this dodge?these also had intake leak problems. try starting the engine and let it idle and then with some carburator cleaner spray around intake gasket and see if idle changes if it does then you have a intake gasket leak, another problem may be a leaking injector, try some sea foam in the gas tank and run a half tank of gas and see if that helps, otherwise a fuel injection system cleaning would be the way to go but this is only if its an injector problem, if this truck is 1996 or newwer have the computer scanned at an auto parts store for any codes. if there are codes let me know what they are even list the code and #. good day

Trouble shooting a missfire

Any DTC codes?
It is a very bad idea to use a lot of fuel injector cleaner - you will ruin your injectors.
Is the oil loss through the engine or on the floor? How about oil in the antifreeze?
This engine has two crank sensors - when one fails, the engine will usually run rough - you can't check them, so change them both.
Did you check the traction control system? Is it always on?
A faulty EGR valve and/or TPS sensor can also often cause your misfire and power problems.
And lastly the EVAP system is tricky on these vehicles - check the vent valves and hoses.
There really is no end of things that can cause these problems.
