Could be an engine mount that's failed? or is this a knock while you drive. If so check CV joint/s.

SOURCE: 2004 Pontiac Sunfire Power Windows Do Not Work Properly

Same problem. I had the driver window go first and then the passenger. You must replace the motors. Moisture has gotten into the motor and rusted parts of it. New motor cost be $55. It took two people (myself and a friend) a good 8 hours to extract old motor and install the new one.

SOURCE: engine knocking noise in 2000 saab 9-3 SE?

It's a common problem with these cars i am actually fixing mine as of now. That car is all about oil pressure and when it is low you'll start to get a tap and or what sounds like a knock due to the lifters not having enough pressure. Try taking your oil pan off and check your oil pick up line going from the oil pan to the turbo. A lot of times it gets a lot of sludge build up and makes the pressure little to none. If that looks clear check the slump inside the oil pan and see if that has sludge build up. Well hope this helped

SOURCE: pontiac sunfire valve noise

If it's a ticking noise that speeds up with the speed of the engine, it's a worn valve lifter.
You can try tightening it down by taking the valve cover off and tightening the bolt on the rocker arm, but don't tighten it too much, you will end up with other problems.

Vent solenoid location on a 2003 sunfire

On a 2002 Sunfire, the fuel vapor canister purge solenoid (AKA canister vent solenoid) is between the engine and the firewall, up high near the hood. It's a black box with two hose or fuel vapor line ports going toward the passenger side and one toward the driver side. One of the passenger side hoses goes to the vapor canister.

How do you get to the oil filter

Hello there,

The oil filter is behind the engine, on the passenger side, right above the braided steel exhaust line..use a deflector when removing the oil filter, as engineers did not care that the oil filter leaks onto the exhaust, and makes smoke long after the oil is real easy to get to...a simple piece of cardboard on the pipe will prevent smoke...use it on a cool exhaust, not hot, or the paper will burn...if the engine is hot, use a piece of aluminum works great.

Good luck!!

Where is the fuel filter on an 05-06 sunfire?

your fuel filter is located up next to your gas tank very easy to see once you are up underneath the rear of the car.

My girlfriends 2000 pontiac sunfire's compression test(passenger side cylinder to drivers side) came out 100-80-100-80psi, not sure how to name the cylinders but is that normal or is the head gasket blown...

well a 100 is about minimum and 80 is no good! so you have two bad holes and that would make the car misfire and be hard to start! there is diffidently an issue internally! a head gasket is a cause for sure! could be other stuff too like piston rings and vales but more commonly head gaskets. good luck!

I have had no problem with my sunfire but randomly the engine light came on today, any idea as to what this may mean

A check engine light can mean a variety of things. It could be as simple as changing your oil to as complex as sensors needing changing. Most local parts houses will run a free diagnostics check to check why the engine light is on. Once the check is done it will show you what sensors have been triggered. Have your mechanic look this list over and make the best decision based on the information. Usually a check engine light can be a simple fix. Hope this helps, good luck!
